How much do script reader jobs pay per hour?
What is a script reader?
What does a script reader do?
As a script reader, your primary duties are to read, review, and provide coverage analysis and detailed notes of scripts. Typically, when a writer sends an agent or a studio a new screenplay, it is first screened by a script reader. Your responsibilities are to assess whether the script may be a viable film option for the agent or producer. You may choose to reject the screenplay or send the script to the agent or producer. If you work at an agency, the ultimate goal is either for the agent to sign the screenwriter and sell the script, or for the agent to attach their own talent to the screenplay and persuade a producer or studio to make the film. At a studio, the producer advocates for the script rather than the agent.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a script reader, and why are they important?
What are some common challenges faced by script readers, and how can they be managed?
What is the difference between Script Reader vs Script Supervisor?
| Aspect | Script Reader | Script Supervisor |
|---|---|---|
| Required credentials | Film/TV writing or related experience, sometimes a degree in film or screenwriting | Experience in film/TV production, often with a background in editing or continuity |
| Work environment | Office, studio, or production company; primarily reading and evaluating scripts | On-set during filming, overseeing continuity and script adherence |
| Employer and industry usage | Studios, production companies, agencies, and independent filmmakers | Film and TV production sets, studios, and post-production facilities |
| Common search and comparison intent | Understanding script evaluation roles | Understanding on-set roles related to script management |
The main difference is that a Script Reader reviews and evaluates scripts to advise on their potential, while a Script Supervisor manages continuity and script details during filming. Both roles are essential in the production process but serve different functions within the industry.

Occupational Summary: As a Systems Administrator, you will support and maintain Booth & Associates' Microsoft 365, server, virtualization, networking, and endpoint computing environments across multiple offices. Serve as the primary onsite IT contact for the assigned office and provide hands-on support for switching, routing, Wi-Fi access points, conferencing equipment, and other core technologies.
Assist with server upgrades, system migrations, disaster recovery planning, office technology projects, and infrastructure improvements.
Support and contribute to a company-wide safety culture by following established safety standards, policies, and best practices, helping to ensure a safe environment for employees, clients, and the public.
Support engineering and business applications and coordinate with vendors or service providers when additional assistance is required.
Create and maintain SOPs, technical documentation, system configurations, troubleshooting guides, and employee training materials.
Identify opportunities to improve reliability, security, and efficiency through automation, standardization, and process improvement.
Travel occasionally to company offices to provide onsite technical support, equipment deployment, and project assistance as needed.
Communicate technical concepts clearly and professionally to technical and non-technical employees, vendors, and leadership.
*The above statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned
to this position. This list is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties required of
personnel.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Security, Networking, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
Three or more years of experience in technical support, systems administration, infrastructure support, or a related IT role.
Experience supporting Windows 10/11, Windows Server, and Microsoft 365 environments.
Working knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and business networking fundamentals.
Experience administering or supporting a production virtualization environment, such as VMware or Proxmox.
Mid-level PowerShell experience, including the ability to read, modify, troubleshoot, and create scripts for common administrative tasks.
Experience troubleshooting desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices, networks, user accounts, and business applications.
Ability to manage competing priorities, establish reasonable deadlines, document work, and communicate status without frequent oversight.
Strong customer service, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills.
Self-starter who can operate independently at a remote office while collaborating effectively with colleagues across multiple locations.
Ability to participate in occasional after-hours maintenance and travel to other company offices as business needs require.
Preferred Skills / Nice to Have:
Hands-on VMware administration experience and familiarity with migration planning or transition to Proxmox.
Experience administering Microsoft Intune, Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and OneDrive.
Experience with PowerShell automation for software installation, endpoint remediation, Microsoft 365 administration, inventory, and reporting.
Experience with backup systems, disaster recovery, vulnerability remediation, endpoint protection, and cybersecurity best practices, including MFA.
Experience supporting engineering software such as Autodesk AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Bentley products, Bluebeam, ETAP, or EMTP.
Familiarity with remote monitoring and management tools, help desk or IT service management platforms, and remote access utilities.
Experience creating SOPs, technical documentation, knowledge base articles, and end-user training materials.
Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Security+, Server+, Microsoft AZ-900, MS-900, SC900, VMware VCP, or comparable credentials.
Success in this role requires:
Taking ownership of issues and projects from initial assessment through resolution and documentation.
Knowing when to work independently and when to involve other IT team members or escalate a risk.
Being comfortable shifting between infrastructure administration, automation, and direct end-user support.
Maintaining a professional, service-oriented approach while working with employees at all technical skill levels.
Demonstrating curiosity, sound judgment, accountability, and a willingness to learn new technologies.
