What is a Script Engineer?

A Script Engineer is a professional responsible for writing, maintaining, and optimizing scripts that automate tasks, processes, or workflows within software systems. They often work with scripting languages like Python, Bash, PowerShell, or JavaScript to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and support software development or IT operations. Script Engineers may also troubleshoot scripts, integrate them with other tools, and ensure they follow best coding practices.

How does a Script Engineer typically collaborate with development and operations teams on automation projects?

Script Engineers regularly work alongside software developers and IT operations teams to design, implement, and maintain automation scripts that streamline workflows and system processes. Collaboration often involves gathering requirements, understanding system architectures, and troubleshooting issues together to ensure seamless integration of automation solutions. Effective communication and problem-solving skills are essential, as Script Engineers frequently participate in code reviews, cross-functional meetings, and documentation efforts to keep all stakeholders informed and projects on track.

What is the difference between Script Engineer vs Game Developer?

AspectScript EngineerGame Developer
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Computer Science, Programming SkillsBachelor's in Computer Science, Programming Skills, sometimes specialized in game design
Work EnvironmentGame studios, software companies, often collaborative teamsGame studios, independent developers, software companies
Industry UsageUsed mainly in gaming, interactive media projectsUsed broadly in gaming, including design, programming, and production
Common Search/ComparisonYesYes

While both Script Engineers and Game Developers work within the gaming industry, Script Engineers focus primarily on scripting and implementing game logic, often specializing in scripting languages and tools. Game Developers have a broader role that includes designing, programming, and sometimes managing entire game projects. The roles overlap in skills and work environment, but Script Engineers typically concentrate on scripting tasks within the development process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Script Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Script Engineer, you need strong programming skills, typically in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell, along with a solid understanding of software development principles. Familiarity with automation tools, version control systems like Git, and continuous integration platforms is commonly required. Problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication help Script Engineers collaborate and deliver reliable automation solutions. These skills are essential for improving efficiency, reducing manual errors, and supporting seamless software development and deployment processes.

Who Are We:

Sceye is a high-growth technology company, building the next generation of instant communications, imaging and remote sensing infrastructure through stratospheric platforms.

Our lighter-than-air high-altitude platform systems (LTA HAPS) are capable of maintaining position over an operational area in the stratosphere (altitudes of 18 – 21km). They can carry multiple telecommunications, imaging and remote sensing payloads, providing unique functionality, cost, environmental and societal advantages.

Our HAPS be deployed in a matter of days and at a fraction of the cost of traditional infrastructure solutions. This makes them an ideal solution for providing telecommunications connectivity, emergency solutions in the event of natural or other disasters, environmental and infrastructure monitoring, Earth observation and a range of defense applications.

Our customers & partners include some of the largest global telecommunications companies, infrastructure operators, climate researchers, civil and defense agencies.

At Sceye, we aim high, and we want you to join us at the stratospheric edge of innovation. • Integrate peripheral components to compute modules using I2C, SPI, RS-232/422, CAN, etc.
  • Integrate embedded systems with network applications using TCP/IP stack.
  • Create QA/QC test procedures for designed circuits, and work with test team to automate the test and checkout process.
  • Create and maintain bash scripts to streamline system automation and management.
  • Perform system validation and compliance with test equipment using DMMs, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers
  • Collaborate with a talented, cross-functional team to drive project success.
  • Perform trade studies to inform selection of avionics components for improved flight performance or upgrading flight sciences data collection.
  • Generate test reports for avionics under test, and flight reports for characterization of system and capture of performance during flight.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in embedded systems engineering required; 5 years preferred, to effectively navigate and resolve complex issues encountered in low-level embedded systems.
  • Experience with various communication protocols such as I2C, serial protocols, CAN bus, TCP/IP, SPI, or any other common data protocols.
  • Proficiency with embedded Linux, C/C++, Python, Altium, and MS office tools.
  • Detail oriented and organized communicator.
