Job description

Scripps Mercy Hospital has served central and downtown San Diego since 1890 and is the oldest medical center in the county. The San Diego campus is located near the corner of 5th Avenue and Washington Street in Hillcrest.

Scripps Mercy Hospital consists of two campuses in San Diego and Chula Vista. 

Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego’s campus includes the O’Toole Breast Care Center, a 24-hour emergency room that is a Level I Trauma Center, outpatient physical rehabilitation, minimally invasive robotic surgery and our childbirth unit (including a Level II neonatal intensive care unit).

Registered Nurse RN – Full Time – DOU - Stepdown Unit
Schedule: 72 hours per 2-week pay period | 12-hour Night Shifts (including weekends)
Location: Scripps Mercy San Diego (Hillcrest)

This position is eligible for New Hire and Relocation Incentives up to $7K .

We invite you to join our 46-bed Definitive Observations Unit (DOU) at Scripps Mercy San Diego.  We are the Cardiac Stepdown unit - our highly engaged nurses provide exceptional patient care in a compassionate, welcoming environment.  Our nurses thrive in a culture that is team-oriented and focused on quality care.  The ideal candidate will have a minimum 12 months of RN experience with 6 months in an inpatient setting such as SNF, LTAC or Acute Care.  Experience in PCU, Stepdown or Tele is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

·       Providing direct patient care within the scope of your practice.

·       Patient care includes assessment, planning and implementing a plan of care, and evaluating patients' progress towards expected outcomes.

·       Peritoneal dialysis treatments and administration

·       With quality patient and family-centered care in mind, the RN takes primary responsibility for the patients' care as delivered by the Care Team under their supervision.

·       Work collaboratively with other members of the patient care team to ensure optimal patient care.

Weekend requirements consists of 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period. On-call shifts are assigned on a rotating basis, similar to floating to Med/Surg or Tele Units.

In order to remain eligible for your retention incentive the following criteria must be met:

  • Must remain in original hired FTE Status and Shift (if specified in offer letter)
  • Must remain in original department/specialty
  • Must remain in original Job Title
  • Transfers to other locations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and may result in forfeiting remaining incentive bonus unless specifically noted in your offer letter.

Required Qualifications:

  • Registered nursing degree from an accredited school of nursing
  • Current CA RN License
  • One (1) year of RN experience, 6 months in Stepdown Unit 
  • Current American Heart Association, Healthcare Provider, BLS & ACLS Certification
  • Must be able to speak, read and follow instructions in English
  • Must be able to demonstrate positive behaviors

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six (6) months of RN experience Tele, DOU, PCU or Stepdown - Cardiac Focus
  • NIHSS certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  • Experience with Insulin Drips
  • PD Certified
