Summary

This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Part-Time Reader/Scribe Support Specialist who will be all-in on our mission and who is responsible for delivering high-quality student service by supporting both office operations and providing direct assistance in classroom and testing environments. The individual in this role will serve as a vital point of support for students with disabilities by reading aloud exam questions or course materials, accurately recording responses, and taking notes to ensure full access to instruction. In addition, the position provides general clerical and administrative support, including scheduling, data entry, and student check-in, to help maintain efficient office operations.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required: High School Diploma or GED and completion of at least one (1) year of successful college coursework.
Preferred: Associate's Degree or higher.
EXPERIENCE
Required: One (1) or more years of work experience in clerical, administrative, customer service, or student service roles.
Preferred: Two (2) or more years of clerical, administrative, or customer service experience. Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities in an educational or support setting.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve as a reader by reading aloud exam questions, instructions, or course materials in testing or classroom settings.
  • Serve as a scribe by accurately writing, typing, or recording student responses during exams or class activities.
  • Serve as a notetaker by accurately capturing lecture or lab content in written or typed form.
  • Convert instructional materials into accessible formats when needed to ensure equal access.
  • Support students professionally and discreetly, maintaining strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Assist with routine clerical duties, including data entry, filing, document preparation, and correspondence.
  • Provide general office support, including scheduling, student check-in, and front-line service.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient office workflow and timely completion of tasks.
  • Maintain flexibility to work across both office and classroom/testing environments.
  • Participate in required trainings and professional development to enhance skills and remain current with evolving technologies.
  • Perform other work-related duties as required

Salary: Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.
Pay grade 6 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.
Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)
Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
