What is a screw machine?

A Screw Machine job involves operating and maintaining screw machines, which are automated lathes used to produce precision metal and plastic parts. Workers in this role set up, monitor, and troubleshoot the machines to ensure efficient production. They also inspect finished parts for quality, make tool adjustments, and perform routine maintenance. This job requires mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and knowledge of machining processes.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a screw machine operator?

Screw Machine Operators are responsible for setting up and operating screw machines to manufacture precision metal parts, often reviewing blueprints and using measuring tools to ensure specifications are met. They perform regular maintenance checks, monitor machine operations, and adjust settings to optimize performance and product quality. Daily tasks can also include troubleshooting equipment issues, inspecting finished parts for defects, and documenting production data. This role often involves working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with quality control and maintenance staff to keep manufacturing processes running smoothly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the screw machine position?

To thrive as a Screw Machine Operator, you need mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and experience in machining or manufacturing, often backed by a high school diploma or equivalent.  What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Technical Discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a machining or manufacturing environment, preferably with CNC screw machines.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of CNC machine setup, offsets, troubleshooting, and program editing.
