Job description

SAIC is seeking a highly motivated SCA Engineering Technician III to support the Specialized Munitions Division and Munitions Sustainment Branch at Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane, IN.  The technician will be responsible for the preparation, coating, and sustainment of industrial parts and military systems. This role involves performing detailed surface treatments, applying specialized finishes, in addition to conducting mechanical and technical duties such as disassembly, inspection, and reassembly of critical equipment. The position requires adherence to strict safety, quality, and operational protocols in support of national security objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Surface Preparation & Coating: Perform sanding, cleaning, scraping, masking, and patching of industrial parts. Apply military-grade primers, paints, and coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
  • Technical & Mechanical Duties: Disassemble, inspect, test, and reassemble complex systems like missiles and munitions. Execute sustainment operations and system testing by following technical drawings and standard operating procedures.
  • Equipment & Safety: Clean and maintain all application equipment and comply with all OSHA and hazmat handling standards.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of all work, including data entry for job tracking, inspection results, and process operations.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: High school diploma/GED with 2+ years of relevant experience OR an Associate's degree with 1+ year of relevant experience. Experience in industrial painting, military coatings, or as a technician in a manufacturing/shop environment is highly valued.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency with coating systems (e.g., epoxy, polyurethane) and application techniques.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
    • Experience with standard assembly/disassembly techniques and tools.
    • Basic computer skills are required (Microsoft Office Suite, email, timecard entry).
  • Clearance & Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship is mandatory. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance (Interim Clearance needed to start).
  • Physical Demands: Ability to meet physical fitness, personal responsibility, and safety requirements necessary to obtain and maintain an explosive certification.

Desired Experience

  • Foundational knowledge of explosives and/or ordnance systems.
  • Prior Department of Defense (DoD) technical experience involving requirements and sustainment operations, particularly through the use of standard operating procedures.
  • Possession of an active DoD Security Clearance.
