Summary:
Scotty's Contracting and Stone is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our Heavy Civil Division. This safety-sensitive role is responsible for operating a variety of large construction equipment, including but not limited to Loaders, Backhoes, Track Hoes, Haul Trucks, and Water Trucks. The position also involves general labor tasks such as shoveling, sweeping, minor maintenance, and assisting with mechanical work to support heavy civil job site operations. Work is performed under the direction of a Foreman with minimal supervision, except when managing more complex tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Adhere to all company, local, and federal safety regulations and protocols to minimize risk to workers, drivers, and pedestrians.
  • Take direction from the crew leader for assignments and job duties.
  • Perform minor servicing maintenance or refer major problems to Foreman and Shop Manager.
  • Remain aware of site conditions and report any hazards or issues to the lead or foreman promptly.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with co-workers by showing respect, fostering teamwork, and supporting a collaborative and professional work environment.
  • Complete any required documentation, such as incident reports or site logs, in accordance with company standards.
  • Be prepared to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Perform other physical tasks required to maintain the job site.

Qualifications:
  • Three years of experience performing similar key responsibilities.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a motor vehicle report that is in good standing.
  • Strong attention to safety and adherence to protocols.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Physical Requirements:
  • Climbing: Must have the physical capability to safely climb into and out of equipment that is greater than 10 feet off the ground on uneven terrain multiple times daily.
  • Heights: Ability to climb and work safely at heights exceeding 10 feet.
  • Balance: Including standing and walking on extremely slick and uneven surfaces while carrying.
  • Vision: 20/40 corrected vision to see moving safety hazards, moving equipment, vehicles, and obstructions.
  • Hearing: Corrected to hear verbal safety warnings and instructions.
  • Awkward positions: Getting to and from both sitting and kneeling on the ground.
  • Heavy lifting: Awkward parts and equipment up to 50 lbs. from floor to shoulders, and up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
  • Conditions: Work is performed outdoors in a heavy civil construction environment with exposure to uneven, rocky terrain, dust, dirt, and varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rain.

Work Environment:
This position is predominantly outdoors in various weather conditions. The Heavy Equipment Operator with CDL must be prepared for changing environmental conditions and able to adjust to the demands of an active construction site.
  • Physical stamina is required, as the role involves standing, climbing, and bending for extended periods.
  • Repeatedly climbing into and out of large heavy equipment that is more than 10 feet off the ground is an essential part of the job. Exposure to noise, dust, and heavy machinery in operation.

The selected candidate will be prepared to work in varying weather conditions that may occasionally require physical tasks to be performed in challenging environments. Safety gear, such as gloves, helmets, and protective eyewear, is essential during all operations.
