DEFINITIONResponsibilities include keeping score for youth, recreation, and middle school sporting events using various digital and analog forms of tracking methods.EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Illustrative Only)Follow and uphold the policies and mission statement of both Piedmont Middle School and the Piedmont Recreation Department.Track score of youth sporting events via scoreboard technology or statistics booklet.Understand scoring, rules and procedures for various sports and ages.Open to learning new skills and adjusting workflows on the fly.Open and close gyms as needed.Organize, track and set-up specific sports equipment (i.e. volleyball poles and nets, basketball hoops and benches).Provide game & practice reports to supervisor.Create a safe environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.Other duties as assigned.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDReceives general supervision from the Youth and Adult Sports Coordinator. May receive technical and functional supervision from other management or professional positions. Exercises no direct supervision.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCEAs Rec Leader I - Equivalent to the completion of the 11th grade and some experience working/volunteering in a childcare or recreation program. 17 years or age and older.As Rec Leader II - High School graduate or GED, 2 years of experience working in a recreation program or similar industry.OTHER DUTIESAttends staff development meetings and trainings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve performance. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal and Sports Coordinator or other appropriated administrators.SUPERVISION RECEIVEDYouth & Adult Sports CoordinatorPHYSICAL DEMANDSMust possess mobility to work in a sports facility setting and use equipment. Strength is needed to lift and carry recreation equipment weighing up to 50 pounds for extended periods of time; and flexibility to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. May involve significant standing, walking, pushing, bending and/or pulling to participate in recreation activities. Visual acuity sufficient to perform essential functions of the position. Hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone.ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTSEmployees work in a sports facility setting with loud to moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions. Employees may interact with challenging staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures. Applicants should also exhibit patience, maturity, and dependability. Have good organizational skills. Possess a positive coaching philosophy, as well as excellent communication and organizational skills.WORKING CONDITIONSSchedule will vary between 10-20 hours per week. Practices and games will typically be scheduled Monday-Friday in-between 3:00pm-9:00pm and Saturday-Sunday, 8 am – 6 pm. There trainings and meetings you will be asked to attend.COMPENSATIONAs Rec Leader I - $18 - $20 per hourAs Rec Leader II - $18 - $22 per hourPart-Time, Temporary
