To thrive as a Scopist, you need excellent grammar, punctuation, and editing skills, often supported by specialized training or coursework in legal or court reporting fields. Familiarity with transcription and court reporting software like Case CATalyst or Eclipse, as well as a solid understanding of legal terminology, is typically required. Strong attention to detail, time management, and the ability to work independently are valuable soft skills in this role. These skills ensure that transcripts are accurate, professionally formatted, and delivered in a timely manner to clients, which is essential in the legal industry.
A scoping job involves editing and formatting legal transcripts for court reporters. Scopists use specialized software to review rough transcripts, correcting grammar, punctuation, and formatting while ensuring accuracy based on audio recordings and reporter notes. This role requires strong language skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with legal terminology. Scopists work closely with court reporters to produce polished, final transcripts efficiently. Many scopists work as freelancers, offering flexibility in workload and schedule.

All Carpenter Journeyman personnel are required to wear and maintain the following personal protective equipment (PPE) while on site:
CP Services provides all required PPE and ensures personnel are trained in its proper use and maintenance in accordance with Alberta OHS legislation and site-specific requirements.
