Bike Mechanic WE BIKE Baton RougeAbout Tandem

Tandem is a fast-growing startup with a community first approach to micromobility. Just like our name suggests, we work side by side with partner cities as trusted advisors helping them build successful bike share and scooter programs that truly serve their communities.

We partner with Movatic, a premium software platform that makes it easy for people to rent bikes, scooters, and other shared assets, while giving cities and operators the tools they need to manage their systems seamlessly.

We're excited to be operating WE BIKE BR in Baton Rouge and believe our service will make bike share more accessible, reliable, and easy to use for the community.

We're looking for a professional bicycle mechanic who is passionate about bikes, takes pride in quality work, and enjoys being part of something that makes a real local impact.

The WE BIKE BR program includes 25 bikes across 6 station locations. In this role, you'll perform general maintenance and safety checks on the fleet every two weeks, helping keep the system safe, dependable, and ready to ride.

We'll make sure you have the support you need to do the job efficiently and successfully and we want you to treat the fleet like it's your own. This role also includes performance and growth-based incentives, giving you the opportunity to grow with the program.

Your primary responsibility will be to perform maintenance and repairs on Tandem Mobility bicycles every two weeks.

  • Perform routine maintenance and on-demand repairs across the fleet
  • Rebalance the fleet to help ensure bikes are available where riders need them most
  • Maintain a strong sense of ownership over the fleet and the condition of each bike
  • Support Tandem Mobility and local stakeholders in advocating for the program in the community

Mechanical Qualifications

  • Ideally, access to a mobile repair stand and indoor space to store and work on bikes
  • Ability to perform some repairs on-site and outdoors as needed

  • Ability to comfortably lift and transport multiple 50-pound bikes, depending on operational needs
  • Ability to use a smartphone and camera for communication via calls, text, and email

Professional Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills and willingness to provide updates and context
  • Flexible and able to work with changing schedules and workloads
  • Detail-oriented, practical, and able to make sound decisions independently
  • Able to think critically about what Tandem HQ may need to know about the system not just respond to direct requests
  • Comfortable serving as a professional, friendly public face for Tandem while out in the field

This is an independent contractor role with premium pay per bicycle maintained, plus incentives tied to performance and program growth.

In addition to competitive compensation, you'll enjoy:

  • Flexible scheduling more control over when and how you work; it's your business
  • Great deals on parts and supplies access to dealer relationships with discounts of up to 40%
  • Opportunities to shape operations your feedback will help us improve, grow, and build stronger systems
