Job description

Bioinformatics Support II – Molecular Virology & Surveillance

A government contract requires that this position be restricted to U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents.  You must provide documentation that you are a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident to qualify.

*** An active NACI clearance or the ability to obtain a NACI clearance is required for consideration. ***

The Bioinformatics Support II role provides advanced scientific and analytical support to CDC genomic surveillance programs. This position serves as a bridge between laboratory science and computational analysis, supporting interpretation of sequencing and molecular data to inform public health decision-making.

Compensation & Benefits:
Pay commensurate with experience.

Bioinformatics Support II – Molecular Virology & Surveillance Responsibilities Include:  
Scientific & Analytical Support
•    Interpret sequencing and molecular data (PCR, dPCR, metagenomics) 
•    Provide biological context to genomic surveillance outputs 
•    Identify variants, mutations, and signals of public health relevance 
•    Familiarity with sequencing outputs (e.g., variant calls, lineage assignments, coverage metrics)


Collaboration & Coordination
•    Partner with laboratory teams and bioinformaticians 
•    Support coordination with external labs and partners 
•    Translate lab outputs into actionable insights 
•    Experience working with cross-functional teams in public health or research environments


Program Support
•    Contribute to reports, briefings, and technical documentation 
•    Support pilot studies and surveillance enhancements

Bioinformatics Support II – Molecular Virology & Surveillance Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:  
•    Master’s or PhD in Bioinformatics, Microbiology, or related field 
•    Experience with sequencing workflows and molecular data 
•    Familiarity with environmental or wastewater datasets 
•    Strong communication and analytical skills 
•    Ability to work independently and resolve problems without constant supervision
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•    Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
•    Must pass the pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
