How much do scientist metabolomics jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 6, 2026, the average yearly pay for scientist metabolomics in the United States is $130,117.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $107,500.00 and $173,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the scientist metabolomics position, and why are they important?

A Scientist Metabolomics requires a strong background in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, or related life sciences, typically with an advanced degree (MSc/PhD) and experience in metabolomics research. Expertise using mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and associated data analysis software such as XCMS or MetaboAnalyst is highly valuable. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective teamwork and communication skills are important soft skills in this role. Collectively, these skills ensure accurate data generation and interpretation while fostering innovation and collaboration in dynamic research environments.

What is a scientist metabolomics?

A Scientist in Metabolomics specializes in studying small molecules (metabolites) within biological systems to understand metabolic pathways, disease mechanisms, and biochemical processes. They use techniques like mass spectrometry (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to analyze metabolic profiles. Their work is crucial in fields such as pharmaceuticals, healthcare, biotechnology, and nutrition. Responsibilities may include experimental design, sample preparation, data analysis, and interpretation of metabolomic data. They often collaborate with biologists, chemists, and data scientists to derive meaningful insights from metabolic data.

What are some typical daily responsibilities of a scientist metabolomics?

A Scientist Metabolomics typically begins the day by preparing and analyzing biological samples using mass spectrometry or NMR instruments, followed by processing and interpreting complex data sets with specialized software. Collaboration is frequent, involving regular meetings with colleagues in biochemistry, bioinformatics, and project management to design experiments or discuss findings. Many roles also involve troubleshooting equipment, ensuring quality control, and maintaining meticulous lab records. Over time, you may contribute to research publications, support grant applications, or help train junior team members, offering diverse growth opportunities within academia, industry, or clinical research settings.
