THE MORGAN OLIVER SCHOOL
Welcome Allies, Activists, Organizers & Liberators.
Science Teacher Part-Time Approximately 16 hours/week Two to three days
Position Overview
The Morgan Oliver School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Science Teacher to bring science to life across our whole school from our youngest learners through our Liberators middle school cohort. The ideal candidate is comfortable adapting instruction for very different ages and genuinely enjoys collaboration. The anchor of this role is an extended STEM morning with our Liberators, co-planned with our Middle School Lead, so a love of problem-solving and building things together is essential.
This part-time position is approximately 16 hours per week over two to three days: roughly 7 hours of teaching across our four cohorts (K/1, 2/3, 4/5, and the Liberators), four hours of guaranteed weekly planning and collaboration time, and the remainder spent supporting the wider school day. The Liberators meet for a longer block than the lower grades.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver engaging science lessons aligned with NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) for our four cohorts: K/1, 2/3, 4/5, and our Liberators middle school group.
- Lead an extended STEM morning with the Liberators, partnering closely with the Middle School Lead to develop curriculum, brainstorm ideas, and plan trips and hands-on experiences together.
- Use The Morgan Oliver School's scope and sequence to design age-appropriate curriculum that supports scientific inquiry across every cohort.
- Incorporate hands-on activities, experiments, and projects to foster a love for science and enhance learning outcomes.
- Assess student progress and adjust instructional strategies to meet individual needs and learning styles.
- Collaborate with other educators to integrate science across the curriculum and promote interdisciplinary learning.
- Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports the social, emotional, and academic growth of all students.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, achievements, and areas for growth in science.
- Support the wider school day alongside teaching including recess duty and other shared tasks as a present, contributing member of our small staff.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and school-wide initiatives as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Science Education, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- State teaching certification or licensure (preferred).
- Proven experience teaching science to elementary and/or middle school students.
- Knowledge of NGSS and experience with curriculum development and implementation.
- Comfort with project-based, collaborative STEM work and a willingness to co-plan and problem-solve alongside colleagues.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and students.
- Commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning environment.
Benefits
- Competitive hourly rate of $4050, depending on experience.
- Four hours of guaranteed, protected planning and collaboration time each week.
- Professional development opportunities to support ongoing growth and learning.
- Supportive and collaborative work environment within a progressive educational institution.
- Materials and budget provided to enhance classroom instruction and student engagement.
