Job Responsibilities
The tutor is primarily responsible for encouraging self-directed learning and development in each student. To do this, a tutor assists students to understand their coursework. This may require the tutor to help clarify a concept or give a clear explanation of an assignment. The tutor is not expected to know how to answer every possible question, but rather to work to ensure that the student develops a firm foundation to take learning to the next level. Science tutors are asked to visit classes at the start of each semester to introduce themselves and make students aware of tutoring resources. They may also be asked to attend science classes or other college events to promote tutoring services. They may also be asked to coordinate and present science workshops to assist just in time learning. Additional tasks may also be assigned by the director.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Degree in the field.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching/tutoring a plus.
Additional Comments
Tutors must also be willing to submit to a background check. The ability to relate well to people, to self-start and to adjust easily to a variety of learning styles is beneficial.
