CTE Health Science Technician

Saline High School and the South & West Washtenaw Consortium are seeking an individual to provide hands-on classroom and laboratory support in a secondary CTE Health Science program. Working under the direction of the certified CTE instructor, the technician will assist students as they develop foundational healthcare knowledge, technical skills, professional behaviors, and workplace readiness. A primary responsibility of this position will be to support students participating in a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preparation pathway, including classroom, laboratory, and clinical activities designed to prepare students for the applicable Michigan-approved nurse aide training and competency requirements.

Qualifications

Required Education/Certification

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 4,000 hours of recent, relevant work experience (within the last 10 years) in the Health Care industry.
  • Must hold Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential in Michigan if not a licensed Nurse.
  • Recent experience working as a CNA, patient care technician, medical assistant, nursing assistant, or other direct-care healthcare professional.

Preferred Experience

  • LPN, ADN or RN License preferred.
  • Experience in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, assisted living facility, rehabilitation facility, long-term care facility, or other healthcare setting.
  • Experience working with older adults or individuals with disabilities.
  • Experience with dementia or Alzheimer's care.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
  • Experience working with high school students.
  • Experience supporting healthcare education or training.
  • Postsecondary coursework in nursing, allied health, health sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience preparing individuals for healthcare industry credentials.
Responsibilities & Duties
  • Assist the certified CTE teacher with daily classroom and laboratory instruction.
  • Provide individual and small-group assistance to students under the direction of the CTE teacher.
  • Reinforce concepts and technical skills introduced by the instructor.
  • Assist students in practicing healthcare skills in a simulated laboratory environment.
  • Help prepare instructional materials, equipment, supplies, and laboratory stations.
  • Assist with classroom setup, cleanup, organization, and inventory.
  • Help maintain a professional, respectful, and student-centered learning environment.
  • Support students with varying levels of academic and technical ability.
  • Provide appropriate feedback to the teacher regarding student performance, participation, and areas requiring additional support.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

  • Patient-care equipment: hospital beds, wheelchairs, walkers, gait belts, transfer equipment, and patient-care mannequins.
  • Vital-sign equipment: blood-pressure cuffs, stethoscopes, thermometers, pulse oximeters, and scales.
  • Personal-care supplies: bathing, grooming, oral care, toileting, and feeding equipment.
  • Safety and infection-control equipment: PPE, gloves, gowns, masks, hand-sanitizing supplies, disinfectants, and biohazard containers.
  • Emergency equipment: CPR manikins, AED trainers, and first-aid supplies.
  • Clinical simulation equipment: wound-care supplies, catheterization models, injection-training equipment, and other CNA practice materials.
  • Technology: computers, interactive displays, medical terminology resources, CNA curriculum/testing software, and healthcare simulation technology.
