Job description

Position Title:Assistant Professor for Management and EntrepreneurshipAppointment Type:FacultyJob Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship in the Ivy College of Business at Iowa State University invites applications for a tenure-eligible Assistant Professor position in the fields of Organizational Behavior (OB)/Human Resources (HR) or Entrepreneurship, to begin August 2027. The selected candidate will be expected to publish high-impact research in top-tier Management and/or Entrepreneurship journals. New hires typically teach an undergraduate course in their respective field (OB/HR or Entrepreneurship) in their first years (usually a single prep) and can later teach courses in the MBA or PhD programs. This full-time faculty position is on campus and in person.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Management, Organizational Behavior, Human Resources, Entrepreneurship, or related fieldprior to starting the position.

  • Demonstrated ability to produce strong scholarly research.

  • Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduates.

  • Must meet the college's standards to be Scholarly Academic Qualified under AACSB Accreditation standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A record of publications in high-quality journals and papers presented at major conferences.

  • Significant research in progress targeted at top Management or Entrepreneurship journals.

  • A record of high-quality teaching in the areas of Organizational Behavior/Human Resources or Entrepreneurship.

  • Evidence of engagement with and service to the profession and field.

Department/Program & College Description:

The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship is a supportive and productive group of 40+ faculty members (20 tenure-track and 22 term), currently chaired by Chad Murphy. With research interests spanning the areas of OB, HR, Entrepreneurship, Strategy, and Healthcare Management, our faculty have published research in a wide variety of top journals, including the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Management, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal. The department offers undergraduate degrees in Management, Entrepreneurship, Human Resource Management, and Healthcare Management. The department also offers a Masters in Entrepreneurship and PhD programs in Management as well as Entrepreneurship.

The Ivy College of Business was established in 1984. It conducts and shares research to educate tomorrow's business leaders so they are prepared to overcome multi-disciplinary global, technological, and ethical challenges. The college is accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSBInternational). It enrolls over 5,000 students and offers numerous degree programs, including an MBA program, which is ranked #16 in the country among public universities, and an entrepreneurship undergraduate program ranked #9 in the nation.

Tied to the Ivy College of Business is the Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship, which serves theISUcampus with educational workshops, experiential learning, student business venture incubation, and ongoing venture support, as well as the Small Business Development Center, which offers startup assistance to students, faculty, and the community. The center has earned prestigious national and international recognition, including the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers' Exceptional Contributions in Entrepreneurship Research (2024), the NASDAQ Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence Award (2022), the Accreditation Council for Entrepreneurial and Engaged Universities' Entrepreneurial University of the Year (Americas) (2023), and the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship's Model Program Award (2021). The larger entrepreneurial ecosystem at Iowa State University, under the Vice President for Economic Development & Industry Relations, includes a 500+ acre Research Park that houses more than 100 companies, a year-long startup accelerator, and a top-tier technology transfer research foundation.
