Job description

Position Overview and Responsibilities
The Ocañas Lab is seeking a temporary Laboratory Technician to assist with tissue sectioning and related laboratory tasks. This position is ideal for an undergraduate student interested in biomedical research, medicine, or graduate/professional school who is looking to gain hands-on laboratory experience.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and sectioning tissue samples using standard laboratory techniques.
  • Assisting with organization, labeling, and tracking of tissue specimens.
  • Maintaining accurate and meticulous records of samples and procedures.
  • Supporting general laboratory organization and routine lab maintenance.
  • Following established protocols and safety procedures.
  • Working closely with lab members and taking direction from supervisors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Reliable, self-driven, and highly attentive to detail.
  • Able to follow instructions, take direction, and keep meticulous records.
  • Team-oriented, personable, and able to work well with diverse personalities.
  • Detail-oriented and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Availability to work at least 20 hours per week during the regular workweek, Monday through Friday.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate student with an interest in biomedical research, medical school, or related health/science careers.
  • Interest in gaining hands-on laboratory experience.
  • Basic knowledge of routine laboratory procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Prior laboratory experience is helpful but not required; training will be provided.

Work Hours
Flexible part-time hours, with scheduling available during the regular workweek, Monday through Friday, sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The position requires availability for 20 hours per week.
