Program Dates: July 13 - July 17, 2026
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Position Overview
Tidewater Community College is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Future Scientists Instructor to lead a week-long STEM enrichment program for youth. The instructor will engage students through hands-on experiments, interactive demonstrations, and inquiry-based learning activities designed to spark curiosity and foster a love of science.
The ideal candidate is passionate about science education and can create a fun, safe, and engaging learning environment where students are encouraged to explore, question, and discover.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and lead age-appropriate science lessons, experiments, and STEM activities.
  • Introduce students to a variety of scientific disciplines, including biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, and environmental science.
  • Facilitate hands-on learning experiences that encourage critical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Supervise students throughout the program and ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain classroom materials, equipment, and experiment supplies.
  • Adapt instruction to meet the needs and interests of diverse learners.
  • Encourage teamwork, creativity, and scientific inquiry.
  • Communicate professionally with program staff, parents, and guardians as needed.

Qualifications
  • Experience teaching science, STEM, or enrichment programs for youth.
  • Background in science, education, engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Ability to make scientific concepts engaging, accessible, and fun.
  • Experience leading hands-on experiments and activities is highly desirable.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
  • Ability to pass any required background screening.
