Messmer High School is a 9-12 grade Catholic high school that serves students and families on the north side of Milwaukee. Messmer High School currently enrolls over 500 students. 80% of our students attend college. African American students comprise 85% of the student body and over 80% of students qualify for free/reduced meals. Regardless of student background and external factors, MHS maintains high expectations for students.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Digital Citizenship and Communications Teacher will be motivated to make a positive impact on high school students while keeping a focus on academic success and help students achieve their fullest potential. The Digital Citizenship and Communication Teacher will engage positively and professionally with the high school team to create a positive culture and ensure student success.
This position includes teaching students how to use technology and communication responsibly and confidently. Lessons will focus on online safety, respectful digital communication, empowered technology use, and protection of personal information.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work performed in this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required; other duties may be assigned.
- Demonstrate a clear commitment to adult and adolescent development and learning, and collaboration with a growth mindset in his/her professional practice.
- Plan, prepare, and facilitate instruction for the prescribed curriculum for the subject area(s) he/she is teaching. Manage the learning process, evaluate student performance, maintain records, and plan lessons.
- Understand and apply strategies (e.g. differentiation and extension) and best practices (eg. models, think-aloud, mini-lessons, multiple drafts, reflection, effective group work) to ensure student success.
- Implement, execute, and measure academic success at the classroom level. Use data collected using formative and summative assessments to discuss and inform instruction.
- Assist with the ongoing review and improvement of processes and procedures related to the school. Follow established teaching protocols and programs to ensure consistency among classes.
- Work cooperatively and interact positively with students, parents, staff and community. Oversee classroom discipline and escalate issues to appropriate personnel, as applicable.
- High presence and availability to all students, faculty and parents.

- Education Requirements: Bachelor of Arts/Science
- Required Certifications/Licenses: State of Wisconsin high school educator license (1220 Technology Education, 1300 English, 1301 Broadfield Language Arts, 1310 Journalism, 1320 Speech Communication, 1777 Regular Education, 1953 Urban Educator, 1405 Computer Science)
- Experience: Prefer but not required: teacher experience, preferably in an urban city classroom
