The Hammond Academy of Science and Technology is seeking candidates for Secondary Science (6 -12) position for the 2026-27 school year.
The school currently enrolls approximately 600 students in grades 6-12. The Academy serves a diverse population of students. The curriculum is project-based, reflecting the complexity of the real world. Instructional technology is infused throughout daily instruction and integrated into the curriculum and instructional methodologies. Partnerships with local organizations open the learning environment to the outside world.
Experience with project-based learning is preferable but not required.
Candidates must be certified teachers in the State of Indiana or hold appropriate out-of-state certificates which qualify for transfer to Indiana.
Salary and Benefits: A regionally competitive salary with excellent employment benefits based on the qualifications and employment history of the candidate.

Pay: Starting pay for new teachers is $49,000
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following responsibilities are required of the position, plus any other duties that may be required by the employer. Specific duties and responsibilities will be assigned by the building principal.
โ€ข Engage students in learning, manage student behavior in a positive, proactive and constructive manner for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
โ€ข Prepare students to become productive responsible citizens through positive proactive engagement and modeling.
โ€ข Create a flexible program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth.
โ€ข Establish effective rapport with students, seek to meet individual student needs.
โ€ข Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continuing education.
โ€ข Establish positive relationships with students, parents and other staff members.
โ€ข Supervise students within assigned areas and as needed.
โ€ข Develop Lesson plans.
โ€ข Deliver group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines.
โ€ข Provide diverse learners with accommodations and modifications to ensure learning. At a minimum provide the legally required modifications and accommodations as outlined in each child's IEP, 504 plan, Health Care Plan or other legally mandated document.
โ€ข Collaborate with other teachers, administrators to address instructional and/or classroom issues.
โ€ข Respond to a wide range of inquiries from students, parents, and guardians regarding the instructional program and student progress.
โ€ข Create and support a culture that empowers students.
โ€ข Encourage a culture of inclusiveness and support for all children.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: Indiana License to teach in appropriate grade/subject
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
The general physical demands include standing up to four hours, climbing, bending, stooping and lifting up to 20 lbs as part of routine job activities within the classroom environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
