As a physical therapist assistant, you work under the direction of the physical therapist to assist patients with rehabilitation. Many PTAs work in hospitals or clinics, but opportunities are also available in schools and sports facilities. In a school-based position, you assist with providing physical therapy and student exercise programs and oversee activities to encourage recreation as well as therapeutic benefits. You also help students use adaptive equipment and work with each student athlete who needs help overcoming an injury. Your duties involve collecting data on student progress, documenting activities and outcomes, and recommending modifications to the physical therapist.
