Position:  School Lunch Monitor
Position FTE:  .25
Pay Grade:  2
Starting Wage:  $17.45
Days Per Year:  191
Shift hours: 11:15-1:15
Job Summary: Under direct supervision monitors student behavior and safety while on school grounds.  Monitors student activities during lunch periods and recess (both indoors and outdoors) to ensure appropriate behavior and safety is maintained according to established guidelines. Directs students in proper use of school equipment/facilities and prevents and/or intervenes in student arguments/fights.
Specific job responsibilities relevant for this position include: 













  • Monitors student activities during lunch periods and recess (both indoors and outdoors) to ensure appropriate behavior and safety is maintained according to established guidelines. Directs students in proper use of school equipment/facilities and prevents and/or intervenes in student arguments/fights.
  • Intercepts unfamiliar personnel on school grounds, requests identification and/or directs them to school office.
  • Assists instructors in providing first aid to students and/or accompanies injured students to the school nurse.
  • May be required to performs basic clerical and/or support duties including providing library or office assistance (e.g. filing, copying, answering phones, sorting/distributing mail).


Knowledge: Knowledge of children's games and outdoor sports desired. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or picture forms. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in children's play situations. Will be required to supervise students outside to temperatures of -10.
Training and Experience (position requirements at entry): High School Diploma. Previous education, training, work or life experience which provides reasonable evidence of the successful performance of the various tasks listed.
Licensing Requirements (position requirements at entry): A valid Alaska Driver's License.
Physical Requirements: Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces grater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
