Job description

QUALIFICATIONS:    Valid state license as a Registered Nurse (RN). Two (2) years of experience in public health nursing, preferably in a school                                                      district.  Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
LOCATIONS:  

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 
  • Conducts hearing and vision screening tests and all other tests recommended by the State Board of Education and the Department of Health and Environmental Control.
  • Assumes responsibility for selection and referral of students in need of medical and dental care.
  • Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters.
  • Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.
  • Observe students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
  • Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness.
  • Contacts homes of children referred by principals for health reasons.
  • Advises on modification of the educational program to meet health needs of individual students.
  • Authorizes exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
  • Attends committee meetings and conference regarding health service and health curriculum.
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities designated.
 

TERMS:                     190 days.  Salary and work year to be recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board of Trustees.

 

EVALUATION:       Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation for professional personnel.
