School Based Rbt information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a School-Based Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), and why are they important?

To thrive as a School-Based RBT, you need a solid understanding of applied behavior analysis (ABA), behavior intervention strategies, and must hold an RBT certification. Familiarity with data collection systems, behavior tracking software, and progress reporting tools is essential. Strong communication, patience, and collaboration skills are vital for working effectively with students, teachers, and support staff. These competencies ensure effective implementation of behavioral interventions and promote positive educational outcomes for students with behavioral challenges.

How does a School Based RBT typically collaborate with teachers and other educational staff?

A School Based Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) works closely with teachers, special education staff, and school psychologists to support students with behavioral or developmental needs. Collaboration often involves regular communication, participating in team meetings, and sharing observations to help develop and implement individualized behavior intervention plans. RBTs may also provide in-class support, assist in data collection, and offer strategies to teachers for managing challenging behaviors, ensuring a cohesive approach to student success.

What are school-based RBTs?

School-based Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) are trained professionals who work within educational settings to provide behavior therapy and support to students, particularly those with autism or other developmental disorders. They implement behavior intervention plans designed by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) to help students develop social, academic, and life skills. RBTs work closely with teachers, school staff, and families to ensure consistent and effective interventions, fostering a positive learning environment for students.

Job description

Description:

Education Behavior Consultants (EBC) is looking for a strong Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) to join our team in the Berkeley area. We are especially looking for someone who is confident, proactive, and experienced supporting students with behavioral needs in home and school settings.

This role is a great fit for someone who can walk into a classroom, build rapport, stay calm under pressure, collaborate well with school staff, and provide meaningful behavioral support with professionalism and consistency. We are looking for someone who is not only clinically solid, but also a true self-starter. Someone who does not wait to be told every next step, but can think critically, communicate clearly, and jump in with purpose.

At EBC, we care deeply about doing meaningful work and supporting our staff well while they do it. We value compassion, integrity, collaboration, growth, and high-quality care for the students, families, and school teams we serve.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide direct 1:1 behavioral support to students in school settings
  • Implement behavior intervention plans and support strategies with consistency
  • Use reinforcement, prompting, behavior reduction strategies, and skill-building techniques in real time
  • Collect accurate session data and complete documentation in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with school staff, supervisors, and interdisciplinary team members
  • Support students with regulation, communication, transitions, classroom participation, and social/emotional needs
  • Maintain professionalism in fast-paced and sometimes unpredictable school environments
Requirements:

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience working with students with behavioral needs in a school setting
  • RBT credential preferred
  • Experience implementing behavior plans and working under BCBA supervision
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to stay composed, flexible, and solutions-focused
  • A high level of professionalism, accountability, and follow-through
  • Someone who is warm, coachable, and team-oriented, but also able to work independently and take initiative

Preferred qualifications:

  • Current RBT certification
  • Experience supporting students in public school or special education settings
  • Familiarity with behavior intervention plans, data collection, and classroom-based support
  • Experience working with a range of behavioral presentations, including students with more intensive support needs

Why EBC:
At EBC, we believe great staff deserve great support. We work hard to create a culture that is collaborative, growth-minded, and genuinely human. We want team members who care about kids, care about quality, and want to keep learning. In return, we provide strong supervision, meaningful mentorship, and a team that truly works together.

If you are looking for a school-based role where your experience matters, your voice matters, and your work can make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you.
