Job description

Scene Shop Assistant

Salary/Position Classification
  • 14.00 hourly, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
  • 10 hours per week
  • 100% Remote Work Availability: No
  • Hybrid Work Availability (requires some time on campus): No
Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Build and assemble scenery, set pieces, and platforms using wood, metal, and standard shop tools (saws, drills, welders, etc.)
  • Paint and finish sets according to designer specs (base coats, texturing, faux finishes)
  • Rig and install scenic elements for load-in; strike sets after productions close
  • Maintain and organize the shop - tools, materials, paint area, and equipment upkeep 
Minimum Requirements
  • Some demonstrated experience with basic carpentry, hand and power tools (saws, drills, etc.)
  • Ability to safely operate shop equipment, or willingness to be trained on it
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks - climbing ladders, kneeling, standing for extended periods, working at heights
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and work under supervision of the Technical Director
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
