Position Summary:

As a Ballot Scanning Operator, you will be responsible for accurately and securely scanning ballots using a computer and ballot scanning equipment. You will work as part of a two-person team, rotating between operating the scanner and transporting ballot trays. Responsibilities also include assisting Ballot Opening Teams, properly boxing and securing scanned ballots, and following all election security procedures. Basic computer skills are required, and training will be provided. This position requires the ability to work at a computer for extended periods and lift ballot boxes weighing approximately 20 pounds. Other duties may be assigned as needed.


Job Description:

  • Accurately scan ballots for tabulation in accordance with established procedures and election protocols.
  • Work as part of a two-person team to support the scanning process, rotating responsibilities between operating the scanning equipment and transporting ballot trays.
  • Transport ballot trays to and from the Scanning Judges and ensure all ballots and election materials are handled securely and delivered to the appropriate location.
  • Organize, box, label, seal, and secure scanned ballots in accordance with election security and storage procedures.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, confidentiality, and organization when handling ballots and election materials.
  • Follow detailed instructions, established processes, and all applicable election security procedures.
  • Demonstrate proficient computer skills and the ability to learn and operate scanning equipment.
  • Communicate and work collaboratively with team members to maintain an efficient and accurate workflow.
  • Possess basic math skills and strong organizational abilities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the shift.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to handle and move ballot trays and boxes as needed throughout the scanning process.
  • Ability to lift boxes weighing approximately 20-25lbs.
  • Ability to work shifts of 8+ hours, particularly on Election Day.

Essential Physical Requirements:
Continuous upward and downward flexion of the neck. Ability to sit, stand, or walk for 8-12 hours per day. Repetitive use of the hands. Frequent walking, standing, bending, and twisting of the neck and waist. Ability to perform simple grasping and reach above and below shoulder level. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 lbs.
