Hamtramck Recycling is seeking a dependable, detail - focused Scale Operator to join our team. As the first point of contact for our customers and drivers, you'll play a key role in keeping our operation running efficiently.
This isn't just a data entry position. Our Scale Operators are an essential part of daily operations—accurately processing inbound and outbound loads, assisting customers, coordinating with operations, and ensuring every truck is handled safely and efficiently.

What You'll Do
- Weigh inbound and outbound trucks accurately using computerized scale software
- Process customer transactions, tickets, manifests, and shipping documents
- Verify materials, customer information, and load documentation
- Greet customers, vendors, and drivers in a professional and courteous manner
- Answer incoming phone calls and assist customers with questions
- Coordinate with dispatch, operations, and yard personnel throughout the day
- Perform accurate data entry and maintain daily scale records
- Process payments when required
- Maintain organized electronic and paper records
- Monitor truck traffic and help keep vehicles moving safely through the facility
- Follow all company safety policies and operational procedures
- Assist with additional office or operational duties as assigned
What We're Looking For
- Previous scale house experience is a plus, but not required—we're willing to train the right person
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and basic spreadsheet experience
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy
- Strong attention to detail
- Basic math and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently while supporting a team environment
- Professional attitude and dependable attendance
- Comfortable working in a busy industrial environment
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Customer service, office, administrative, or logistics experience preferred
- Previous experience in recycling, transportation, trucking, manufacturing, waste, or construction industries is a plus—but not required
Schedule
Full-Time Position
- Monday – Friday: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
- Rotating Saturdays: 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Saturday shifts are rotated among Scale Operators to provide coverage while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
