Job description

MODEL METAL MAKER – Aerospace, Defense amp; Prototype
Aerospace, Defense amp; Prototype Group innovates metal forming solutions for the mobility industry for space, aircraft, rotorcraft, automotive and commercial vehicles. Our Model Metal Maker is responsible for making complete parts from raw material. Beginning with forming metal and qualification, final buy off and finish trim parts, while meeting precise quality standards. This job is located in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Become proficient at using hand measuring tools in (micrometers, calipers, scales, etc.)
  • Learn how to operate basic shop equipment (band saws, metal shear, die grinders, etc.)
  • Learn basic hammering skills, operate metal “muncher” and press brake
  • Read and understand blueprints and customer specifications, understand basic GD amp;T
  • Inspect parts using defined criteria including blueprints, check aids amp; Applied Trim Templates
  • Be able to deburr and wash parts to written procedures
  • Setup and run metal “muncher”
  • Utilize shrinker/ stretcher and ensure parts are good to requirements
  • Identify defects in parts and report the issues
  • Qualify parts to a 3mm clear check fixture
  • Develop buyoff skills for final trim against using multiple types of check aids including ATT’s, 3mm clear check aids, net check aids and blueprints
  • Check final product against documented requirements including specifications
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Detail-oriented individual that brings a positive attitude with a willingness to learn amp; grow
  • Regular physical movement of bending stooping, sitting amp; on feet for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Manufacturing background
  • Aerospace industry experience
  • Background in prototype die set up and run
