Responsibilities
  • Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values
  • Adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality
  • Assists with orientation of new employees as assigned
  • Supervises a variety of technical employees as assigned
  • Installs, maintains, operates, and repairs electric motors, generators, and related electrical and mechanical equipment using applicable hand and power tools
  • Installs, maintains, and repa1rs lighting, circuitry components, alarm systems, plumbing systems and components such as piping, values, sinks, sanitary fixtures, and fire suppression components, HVAC systems and components such as boilers, steam and gas piping and valves, chillers, pumps, direct expansion units, ventilation and exhaust fans, pneumatic and electric control systems, and medical gas systems and components
  • Performs chemical treatment tests for boilers and cooling water
  • Performs a variety of construction, installation, repair and alterations to: brick, concrete, and other masonry building components, roofing systems and components, floor surfaces such as vinyl and ceramic tile, and carpet, wall components such as metal studs and sheet rock, and woodwork such as cabinets and furniture
  • Operates power tools and equipment such as lathes, drill press, threading machine, grinding machine, electric and acetylene welding rigs
  • Utilizes proper body mechanics to move equipment and supplies, weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Utilizes assistive devices or seeks assistance to move equipment weighing greater than 50 lbs.
  • Climbs ladders and scaffolding and navigates confined, obstructed, and difficult to access spaces and equipment while performing assigned duties
  • Communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families and other hospital staff in person and via telephone
  • Responds to overhead pages
  • Utilizes radio in the proper manner when communicating and answers in a timely manner
  • Maintains accurate and complete records by completing requisitions for purchase of materials with proper pricing
  • Documents and reports all data on preventive maintenance
  • Logs proper readings on all equipment
  • Documents unfinished items, parts ordered and estimated date of completion
  • Completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements
  • Utilizes cost-effective practices in performing all aspects of the job
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Performs minor electrical installations and repairs
  • Performs HVAC repairs
  • Performs all keying of locks for hospital
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
  • Related duties as assigned

Additional Information
Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 3 years experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing, or mechanical equipment Required
  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Specified positions may require possession of a valid driver's license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage under the University of South Alabama Required
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
