Job description

Position Summary

Be a part of the dynamic team at Mark Twain Lake. This U. S. Army Corps of Engineers facility located in Northeast Missouri is focused on providing quality outdoor experiences, responsible stewardship, and service to the nation. Under the direction of natural resource specialists, interns will perform team-oriented, hands-on activities to maintain recreation facilities, landscape features, infrastructure components, and native habitats. Interns will also be engaged with interpretive and visitor services providing on-site and off-site programming, and support of the Corps' Water Safety Program.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Daily tasks will involve engaging visitors, providing interpretation, contributing to natural resource management, and recreation management, including:
Trail maintenance.
Landscape vegetation maintenance.
Maintenance and light repair of signs, gates, and recreation area components.
Maintenance of dispersed recreation and wildland areas.
Support natural resource management efforts, including invasive species control, fish habitat development, forest resource management, wildlife habitat management, boundary line management, and facility maintenance.
Interpretive programming and visitor center services.

Marginal Duties

Staffing campground greeting booths and providing area information to visiting guests.
Staffing special events. Providing guest services and event support.
Support public and facility safety efforts under direct supervision.

Required Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years old on start date.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
Must complete defensive driving training provided by the government.
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must have the ability to effectively speak, read, and write in English.
Must have the ability to work outdoors and lift up to 40 pounds.
Must wear SCA provided attire while on duty.

Preferred Qualifications

Works well in a collaborative, public-facing setting.
Takes initiative while contributing to a team-oriented atmosphere.
Experience with formal or informal education programs, and experience with public speaking.
Outdoor oriented.

Hours

40 per week

Living Accommodations

Housing is not provided. Interns will receive an $800 per month Housing Allowance.

Compensation

$350 - weekly Living Allowance; $75 - weekly Commuting Allowance; $800 - monthly Housing Allowance; $650 - Relocation Travel Grant (based on actual cost, capped at $650)

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
