Job description

Operations Specialist — Securities Reference Data

Contract | Remote (CST hours) | Full-Time

About the Role

We're looking for an Operations Specialist to join the securities reference data team at a Fortune 500 financial services firm. This is a fully remote contract role working central time hours, and it's a great fit for someone who knows their way around investment securities data and likes being the person who gets it right the first time.

The team makes sure security reference data is set up correctly and stays accurate, so the rest of the business can trade, generate trade confirms, and keep operations moving. When a new bond comes to market, this team is who sets it up. You'll be part of a group of nine — seven associates and two contractors — with steady communication throughout the day to keep coverage tight across all functions.

What You'll Do

  • Manage and execute the operational needs of the firm in a fast-paced environment
  • Validate and reconcile securities data to keep reference data accurate and accessible for downstream business areas
  • Set up new securities as they come to market
  • Handle multiple tasks at once and stay organized without losing the details
  • Communicate continuously with the team throughout the day to maintain full function coverage
  • Take a proactive approach to problem solving — spot the issue, dig in, find the fix
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement
  • Develop and implement operational procedures and policies
  • Prepare and present operational reports to management
  • Provide high-quality customer service to internal partners
  • Stay current on industry best practices and regulations

What You'll Bring

Required

  • Background in data validation and reconciliation
  • Basic knowledge of investment securities
  • 3–6 years of experience in financial services (we'll look at 1+ year if you have solid fundamentals in securities and data)
  • Proactive, consistent communicator — this role talks to the team all day
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and stay organized in a fast-paced environment
  • High school diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred but not required

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with securities reference data or bond setup
  • Exposure to trade confirm generation or trading operations support

The Details

  • Type: Contract, full-time
  • Location: Remote — CST office hours, 8:00 AM–5:30 PM CST (you're expected to be available through 5:30 PM CST)
  • Overtime: Not expected
  • Start: ASAP
  • Extension: Possible, contingent on completion of the client's modernization project
  • Conversion: No direct conversion. If an associate role opens up, contractors are welcome to interview.
  • Interview Process: One round with the hiring leader and a team member; a second round only if a decision can't be reached.
