What you'll do

Viasat is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Business Development Solution Architect for the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Business Area (BA). The ISR BA delivers complex turnkey satellite ground stations to US federal clients, integrating groundbreaking technologies in antennas, modems, encryption, cybersecurity, and related areas.    As a Solution Architect, you will build and maintain close relationships with key Prime and Government accounts. You will support commercial growth from early opportunity development to capturing and retaining major franchise programs.   You will lead teams of solution professionals and technical authorities in developing coordinated, efficient solutions. These solutions will be included in proposal responses, address the client’s needs, and improve Viasat’s competitive advantage.     Emphasis for this position is knowledge of government agencies within the Intelligence Community (IC). The position is located in Duluth, GA and will report directly to the ISR Business Area Manager.


The day-to-day
  • Complete the broad range of business development activities including market development, opportunity qualification, customer relationship management, decision mapping, competitive intelligence, customer analysis, competitor assessment, message and strategy development, written responses to requests for information and proposals.  
  • For active pursuits, lead the technical solution development, participate in the competitive costing, and ensure the argument alignment of ISR’s proposals to the customer’s requirements.  
  • Present all parts of the coordinated solution and supporting costing to senior business leaders for review and approval. Identify and evaluate solution risks while crafting strategies and plans to mitigate those risks.  
  • Strengthen customer intimacy by maintaining awareness of life cycle performance of programs within your accounts, ensuring connectedness of new business pursuits with active program performance and post sell-off sustainment activities.
  • Participate as senior technical leader in ISR BA operations, supporting strategy development, IRAD prioritization, and technical problem solving of complex system issues.
  • Build relationships with other Business Growth Solution Architects across Viasat Defense & Advanced Technologies segment in support of joint pursuits and system of systems offerings.

  • Strong Systems Engineering competencies with RF communications, antennas, modems and waveforms, and DoD Risk Management Framework
  • Solid understanding of phased array antenna design and operations
  • Minimum 12+ years with a BS degree or equivalent experience, or 10+ years with an MS in engineering or related field  
  • Ability to quickly grasp technology concepts and translate their value to customers
  • Passion for customer intimacy and evidence of achieving strong efficiency in accomplishing core business development practices  
  • Experience working across organizational boundaries and jurisdictions and leading customer meetings and cross-discipline teams in development of customer solutions
  • Proven track record of managing multiple competing priorities and quickly adapting to changing business environment and priorities
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to obtain Top Secret clearance with SCI access
  • Ability to travel

  • Mature network of IC industry contacts to include government, OEMs, and large and small businesses
  • Ability to apply political skills to cope with conflict  
  • Live within Atlanta metropolitan area and support regular onsite work at Viasat Duluth, GA office

Salary range
$180,500.00 - $285,000.00 / annually.For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $224,500.00- $336,500.00/ annually
