Job Description:
As an Applications Engineering Intern in the Data Center Solutions Business Unit of Microchip, you will be assisting the Applications team in developing tools and demos, board bring-up and debugging, setting up lab equipment to analyze and recreate customer system problems, assisting in customer collaterals, embedded firmware debug/development and assisting in technical support. You must be able to work independently, and in a team environment.
Responsibilities
  • Setting up lab equipment including installation of OS, Drivers, tools, debuggers, analyzers etc.
  • Bring-up and debug customer evaluation boards
  • Develop and maintain customer collaterals, custom firmware and diagnostic tools
  • Recreate, collect, analyze, debug and root cause customer reported problems in a lab environment
  • Develop and provide product training to customers and internal teams
  • Demonstrate new product features, capabilities in industry events and trade shows
  • Performance and power measurement and analysis

Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in BS or MS Electrical/Computer/Computer Science Engineering program.
  • Basic understanding of computer architecture
  • Programming experience in any one of the following: C, C++, TCL/Tk, Python, Java
  • Good troubleshooting and debugging skills
  • Good writing and communication skills

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with installing OSes (Linux and Windows), setting up hardware and drivers
  • Strong knowledge or experience in any one of the protocols or technologies (e.g. NVMe, PCI-Express, SAS, SATA, Fibre Channel, Ethernet, DDR, NAND Flash, UART, SPI etc.)
  • Experience with board-level debug & bring-up.
  • Experience with HW design, schematics capture, and board layout.
  • Experience with driver development / embedded FW development.
