SAP Production Planning (PP) Solution Architect

Location: Lexington, KY (100% onsite, travel paid-for)

Job Type: Contract (Sept-Nov)

Target Salary Range*: $75-150/hr

Position Overview:

The SAP Production Planning (PP) Solution Architect serves as the senior solution authority responsible for the design, architecture, and implementation of SAP Production Planning solutions within an SAP S/4HANA environment. This role translates complex manufacturing, production planning, scheduling, and operational requirements into scalable, best-practice solutions that support business objectives and long-term operational success. The Architect leads blueprint and solution design workshops, defines solution scope and architectural standards, guides functional delivery teams, and serves as the primary liaison between business stakeholders, project teams, and SAP functional and technical resources to ensure the successful delivery of integrated production planning and manufacturing capabilities across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Own the end-to-end SAP PP solution architecture across production planning, demand management, material requirements planning (MRP), capacity planning, shop floor control, and manufacturing execution processes.
  • Design and govern production master data including material masters, bills of material (BOMs), routings, work centers, production versions, and planning strategies.
  • Define planning and manufacturing processes including MRP, demand planning, production orders, process orders, repetitive manufacturing, and production scheduling.
  • Establish integration architecture between SAP PP and related SAP solutions including MM, SD, QM, EWM, FI/CO, and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
  • Lead blueprint workshops, solution design sessions, architecture reviews, and requirements-gathering activities with business and technical stakeholders.
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes and supporting technologies; develop recommendations, roadmaps, and solution strategies to improve operational efficiency and production performance.
  • Define security, authorization, and role-based access strategies supporting planners, schedulers, production supervisors, and manufacturing personnel.
  • Provide architectural governance throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring alignment with SAP best practices, scalability, maintainability, and business objectives.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to support integrations, reporting, data migration, enhancements, and custom development activities.
  • Mentor consultants and project team members while providing guidance on solution design decisions and implementation best practices.
  • Support business development efforts, solution estimates, statements of work, and technical proposal development as a subject matter expert.
  • Travels to client sites up to 75% for on site consultation and assisting with go-lives and hyper-care as needed.
  • Adheres to all certified processes as part of our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and information security, which includes actively participating in quality assurance activities and ensuring the protection of sensitive information in accordance with our security policies.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by direct supervisor.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field with 8-10 years of experience; or no degree with 10-13 years of relevant experience.
  • 8+ years of SAP Production Planning (PP) implementation experience.
  • 2+ full lifecycle SAP S/4HANA implementations with responsibility for solution architecture, enterprise design, or lead architecture functions.
  • Deep expertise in SAP PP configuration and architecture, including MRP, demand management, production orders, routings, work centers, BOMs, capacity planning, and production scheduling.
  • Strong knowledge of SAP PP integration with MM, SD, QM, EWM, FI/CO, and MES solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead workshops, facilitate design sessions, and communicate effectively with both business and technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% to client sites as needed.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), federal government, defense contractor, aerospace, logistics, manufacturing, or other highly regulated environments.
  • SAP Certified Application Associate โ€“ SAP S/4HANA Production Planning or related SAP certification.
  • Experience with advanced planning, finite scheduling, PP/DS, and digital manufacturing solutions.
  • Experience with discrete, engineer-to-order, make-to-stock, or make-to-order manufacturing environments.
  • Prior consulting or systems integration experience with responsibility for solution architecture, client advisory services, statement of work development, and delivery governance.

Motor/Sensory/Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods of time, including use of a keyboard, mouse, and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret information displayed on computer screens, printed documents, and electronic reports.
  • Ability to lift and carry light materials (e.g., documents, binders, or small office equipment), typically up to 15 pounds.
  • Ability to attend meetings in person or virtually, as required.
  • Ability to travel independently to client sites, including air and ground transportation.
  • Ability to navigate airports, client facilities, and office environments, which may involve walking moderate distances.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods during client meetings, workshops, or site walkthroughs.
  • Ability to work in varying environments, including client offices, conference rooms, and controlled industrial or warehouse-adjacent spaces (as applicable).
