About the Role:

As the Director of FP&A you will play a critical role in defining the near and long-term financial strategy for Grocery Outlet through direct partnership with key business leaders. You will be the Finance partner for critical business areas and will drive improved financial outcomes by providing strategic financial insights to merchandising, marketing, and Supply chain teams. This role will manage budgeting, forecasting, and expense tracking for respective areas, while analyzing product margins, sales performance, working capital and ROI on commercial initiatives. You will work as a co-pilot with respective business leaders to help them improve business processes, drive efficiency and make optimal decisions. You will also leverage your finance/accounting background, strong analytical and modeling skills, and understanding of retail business to provide financial analysis and support to Grocery Outlet’s most important strategic initiatives. The Director of FP&A will report to the Sr Director of Finance.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders to support strategy and decision-making. Work cross functionally to ensure accurate reporting on all financial metrics and key performance indicators, develop insights, understand variances, and identify actions with business owners.
  • Provide actionable insights & recommendations to the business groups using analytics performed by self & team. Facilitate the execution of action plan agreed upon, and ensure achievement of desired business outcomes.  
  • Leverage analytics done by team to drive pricing strategies, promotional effectiveness, inventory turnover, and product profitability to improve retail performance.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to refine and shape the financial impacts of our short and long term initiatives. Track the execution and holding stakeholders accountable for delivery of target results.
  • Assess, identify and execute business process improvements and cost savings initiatives across the business.
  • Lead in-depth strategic financial analysis to support strategic initiatives and develop recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Own the Financial planning, reporting, and forecasting processes for respective business areas and contribute to enterprise level planning & reporting.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of financial analysts, foster a high-performance culture and enhance financial acumen across the business.
  • Provide regular and ad hoc support to executive team including: Quarterly Board meeting materials, earnings call preparation, strategic offsites, etc.

About The Pay:

  • Base Salary Range: $175,000 - $195,000 Annually

About You:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related required. MBA or advanced degree is preferred.
  • Proven experience (10+ years) in financial planning and analysis, preferably with a significant portion in a retail/consumer products setting.
  • Understanding of retail operations and in-depth understanding of a retailers P&L, cash flow, and balance sheet will be a plus.
  • Excellent analytical skills, financial modeling capabilities, and an ability to quickly break down complex problems and reach creative solutions.
  • Passion for improving processes, tools, and systems.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Collaborative, passionate, self-motivated, enthusiastic, organized, and teachable.
  • Public company experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP to facilitate understanding of forecast and budget results.
  • Strong MS Office/Excel skills are required and experience with a financial planning system (SAP/BPC, Oracle, Cognos, SRC, Axiom) is a plus.
