Job description

Rate of Pay: $20.75 - $23.67
Status: Open Until Filled

This is a "hands on" supervisory position that is responsible for the daily assignment of work orders to an assigned section of trash and brush collection crews. Monitors sanitation work crews' performance to ensure that department work quality and safety standards are accomplished. The Foreperson ensures that route time schedules are maintained and adjusts as needed.
Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • Receives route assignments from Supervisor and coordinates crew assignments, and equipment to effectively accomplish daily work assignments.
  • Monitors and inspects route crews to ensure work is completed on time and in accordance with the established work and safety standards.
  • Responds to complaints of missed refuse and trash and picks up as needed.
  • Trains new employees and implements new policies and procedures.
  • Maintains and updates time and production records.
  • Fills in for route drivers during employee absences or staffing shortages.
  • Assists the Supervisor with performance evaluations and makes recommendations to Supervisor. Explains city and department policies and procedures to employees.
  • Ability to resolve performance problems with employees and documents violations. Reports unresolved personnel matters to the Supervisor for further action.
  • May be required to perform duties in other divisions within the department in certain circumstances, including, but not limited to periods of heavy workload, natural disasters, and city events. These duties should not require specialized training or certification and will mostly involve tasks centered around manual labor.
  • Helps wash trucks.
  • May pre and post trip inspections and ensure drivers conduct daily inspections.
  • Ability to operate sanitation vehicles and equipment.
  • Work on a rotation to ensure routes are complete and all issues are addressed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Must have and maintain a valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at time of hire and a satisfactory seven-year driving history to include no DUIs in the last 5 (five) years.
  • High school diploma or GED and five years sanitation experience to include at least 3 years route driving experience.
  • Must have a Georgia commercial driver's license (CDL) and a satisfactory seven-year driving history to include no DUI's in the last 5 years. Drug Screen at time of hire required.
  • Must be in excellent physical condition and ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination. Ability to lift and carry garbage/trash/brush loads weighing approximately 35 to 70 pounds several times daily.
  • Knowledge of equipment, materials, safety practices and proper work procedures currently used in waste disposal.
  • Ability to learn city streets and route locations.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. Must be able to effectively communicate with the public and handle customer complaints.
  • Ability to maintain time and production records.
  • Ability to train and evaluate employees including submitting written performance evaluations.
  • Ability to use a computer with MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and associated work order software.
