Job description

Sanitation Operator Third Shift (Sun - Thurs)

LOCATION: Onsite in Alsip, Illinois

SHIFT & HOURS: Third Shift: Sunday (3:00 am 11:30 am) & Monday Thursday 10:00 pm 6:30 am

Hiring Hourly Rate: $19.67/hr. (plus 10% Shift Differential)

Griffith Foods is hiring a Sanitation Operator to join our Sanitation Team. The Sanitation Operator is responsible for keeping all areas of the plant in clean and orderly condition. Sanitation Operators ensure all cleaning chemicals are used and dispensed safely. When cleaning the production equipment, Sanitation Operators ensure Griffith Foods standards are maintained.

As a Sanitation Operator your responsibilities will include:

  • Always keep plant tour and audit ready, including proper cleaning of chemical spills, patching and caulking wall/floor areas.
  • Disassembling and detail-cleaning manufacturing equipment in mixing and packaging.
  • Completing all daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly sanitation schedules as assigned by team captain and/or supervisor.
  • Completing monthly maintenance checks of all sanitation equipment.
  • Participating in major project work that includes dust collection system cleanouts, overhead pipes in warehouse and manufacturing areas.
  • Ensuring that all process equipment is clean, including testing of equipment & analysis of results as part of the startup process.
  • Operating recycling bailers and Gama jets for holding bins.
  • Applying, mixing, and monitoring chemicals to disinfect, treat, and sanitize equipment or surfaces throughout the facility.
  • Operate riding scrubber and being trained to drive a forklift.
  • Adhering to all department procedures and GMP's, including following precise instructions.

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Able to work from heights of 30 feet using scissor lifts or boom lift.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or carry up to 50-pounds throughout the shift
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently, including the ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; and the ability to communicate with individuals and small groups.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Comfort in entering and working in confined spaces.
  • Working knowledge or the ability to gain knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX and RedZone software.
  • Working overtime as needed throughout the week including weekends.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch for extended periods during the shift
  • Comfortable working with and around allergens and cleaning chemicals
  • Must be able to work onsite in Alsip, Illinois location

Candidates must currently be at least 18 years of age AND possess unrestricted authorization to work in the United States. Work visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

What will set you apart:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 3 months experience and/or training in a USDA regulated manufacturing environment
  • Experience operating packaging equipment.
  • Familiarity with food safety requirements.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk to communicate and listen effectively. This will require both office and plant environments. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Safely navigate stairs and ladders

Environmental Concerns:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud; hearing protection is required in designated areas. Dust and odor present in environment.
