Applies Official Coding Guidelines, CMS regulations/guidelines, and other coding standards and guidelines established for use with the ICD-10 standard code set.

Responsible to maintain quality and productivity standards and guidelines as set by the organization. Remains up-to-date on ICD-10-CM and PCS coding principles, governmental regulations, official coding guidelines and third-party payer requirements as they relate to compliant documentation, billing and coding practices. Strong knowledge of MS-DRGs and APR-DRGs.

Works collaboratively with providers and departments such as clinical documentation improvement and quality to standardize and enhance coding, documentation, and quality reporting related practices. Works with a variety of software solutions in the performance of daily work. Flexible and a strong commitment to team where staff and leaders work together across great distances, most often in a home-based work setting.**Qualifications**Associate degree in Health Information Technology (or eligible) or Bachelors degree in Health Information Management and/or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required.

Previous hospital coding experience highly desirable. Prior computer and/or encoder software experience desirable. Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required.

New graduates eligible for certification must complete the certification examination at the earliest testing dates following employment, and all subsequent dates thereafter until the exam is satisfactorily completed.If the individual fails the exam two consecutive times, there will be an evaluation by the Department Director who will determine one of the following:(A) Continue employment if overall job performance is satisfactory.
