What is a sandbox driver?

Sandbox Drivers are professional truck drivers responsible for transporting sand and other proppant materials to and from oil and gas drilling sites. They typically operate specialized trucks equipped with containers called 'sandboxes,' which are used for hydraulic fracturing operations. The role involves loading, unloading, and delivering sand safely and efficiently, often working long hours and following strict safety protocols to ensure proper handling of materials. Sandbox Drivers play a crucial part in supporting the energy industry by ensuring drilling crews have the materials they need.

What are some common challenges sandbox drivers face on the job, and how can they be managed?

Sandbox Drivers often encounter challenges such as navigating remote oilfield locations, managing long or irregular hours, and handling heavy equipment safely. Adapting to changing schedules and weather conditions is also common. Strong communication with dispatch, attention to safety protocols, and a proactive approach to vehicle maintenance can help manage these challenges effectively. Many companies offer training and support to help drivers succeed in these demanding environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sandbox driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sandbox Driver, you need a valid commercial driver's license (CDL), a clean driving record, and knowledge of DOT regulations and safe hauling procedures. Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs), GPS navigation systems, and basic truck maintenance tools is typically required. Strong time management, attention to detail, and effective communication with dispatch and clients help drivers excel in this role. These skills are crucial for ensuring timely, safe, and compliant delivery of sand and materials in the oil and gas industry.

Job description

You might have the impression that HVAC sales is all about sell-and-swindle relationships or hard-closing desperate homeowners in the middle of a heatwave, pushing massive, high-margin system replacements when a simple repair would do, or aggressively upselling complex equipment that people don't fully understand.

If you've worked in the industry or owned a home long enough, you've likely seen companies exploit emergency situations - trading quick commission checks for high-pressure scare tactics, improper load calculations, and oversized units that underperform. That approach burns bridges, damages your professional credibility, and creates a bad reputation that outlasts the company itself.

At Sandbox+, that's not how we operate.

We don't believe in band-aid fixes, high-pressure upsells, or selling equipment for the sake of a quick check. Instead, our Comfort Advisors/HVAC Sales Associates act as true home energy consultants. You will evaluate whole-home comfort and indoor air quality, and efficiency, bridging trades-level mechanical expertise with residential solar and modern electrification strategies.

We don't expect you to pressure customers - we expect you to build relationships. We give you the technical tools, system design support, and company-backed leads to engineer tailored, high-performance solutions that genuinely empower families to achieve energy independence.

Sandbox + is a movement of energy independence professionals relentlessly "Empowering the world to be self-sufficient."

We have been around for 11 years, with deeply established roots in Fort Collins, and the Northern Colorado communities. This is our home, and we were proud to be named as one of 2025's Colorado Companies to Watch. In fact, we are flourishing in a way that many in this industry can't. We've won many local, state, and national awards from organizations such as NoCO Style, Bizwest, Nextdoor, Denver Business Journal, Solar Power World, and the International Electrical Contractors Association. We owe that to the dedication and grit of our founder and CEO, Ian Skor, and our amazing team of expeditioners. We climb mountains others won't, in a way that others can't, and you won't find more determined, dedicated, and innovative people to work with. Interested yet?

Check out this video on what it's like to work here! Now about the role

We have a sales opening that hits a little differently than the high-pressure, churn-and-burn HVAC or solar gigs you are probably used to hearing about: Comfort Advisor / HVAC Sales Associate.

At Sandbox+, our whole model runs on long-term trust, high-end operational quality, and real customer relationships. That means this role is deeply consultative, not a race to hard-close someone during a heatwave just to pocket a quick check. In fact, heating and cooling is only part of what you will be bringing to the table.

Yeah, you will still manage your pipeline, follow up on leads, network outbound, and show up in the community. But we are not looking for someone to push band-aid repairs, throw oversized units at bad ductwork, or pressure homeowners into equipment they do not need. We are looking for a partner: someone who can build actual trust, simplify complex mechanicals, and help homeowners build a modern, optimized home energy system.

Here is what you will actually be solving for:

  • High-performance HVAC systems and heat pumps
  • Whole-home Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) upgrades
  • Residential solar energy generation
  • Battery storage and home electrification strategies
  • Long-term protection and maintenance packages

To step into this role you would need to bring

  • 3+ years as an HVAC Sales Associate or Comfort Advisor with deep equipment knowledge and established manufacturer ties
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean 3-year record
  • Proficiency in proposal software, system design platforms, presentation tools, and spreadsheets

Most importantly, you need a genuine curiosity for how we operate. We want someone who exercises full personal accountability, takes a logic-first, ego-free approach when a deal gets tricky, and actually enjoys helping families take control of their power. You will need the technical chops to assess a home and the communication skills to walk a homeowner through utility savings, rebates, tax incentives, and real ROI without the fluff.

Oh, and bonus points if you have a background in residential solar or a bachelors degree.

You'd likely be successful here if you are good at
  • Building strong long-term customer relationships
  • Managing your pipeline and followup / follow-through effectively
  • Producing measurable results not just lipservice
  • Being self-sufficient in developing and managing your own proposals and client presentations
  • Engaging with the sales team in a collaborative, not competitive way
  • Anticipating challenges, overcoming barriers, and bringing innovative, thoughtful solutions
This will not be the right opportunity for those who:
  • Are used to retail, quick, one-time transactions behind a counter and have never built ongoing, long-term relationships with clients.
  • Are uncomfortable with outreach, outbound calling, going to networking events, or initiating conversations with strangers.
  • Skip follow-ups, drop the ball, leave emails unanswered, or fail to loop back with clients or teammates.
  • Lack a strong presence, aren't confident, articulate, and professional enough to stand out during in-home visits and industry events.
  • Hate using software, resist using proposal tools, CRMS, basic sales tech, and view data entry as a waste of time.
  • Wait to be told what to do, if you lack personal drive, move slowly, or need a manager constantly pushing you to find the next deal.
  • Get easily overwhelmed, struggle to stay organized when juggling multiple active deals and clients at the exact same time.
  • Have a big ego, can't take feedback, refuse to learn from others, or put your own pride ahead of the team's success.
Lets get to the pay

A great relationship-builder who consistently develops trust, manages their pipeline well, and closes quality business can build a substantial income upwards of $200,000 (base + commission) while growing into even larger opportunities within Sandbox+.

A background check will be required for this role.

We estimate this job will be filled by September 30th, but we may extend it as needed.
