Job description

Position Overview

As an Asbestos Technician, you will be responsible for conducting asbestos inspections, sampling, and abatement oversight in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. Your expertise in asbestos management practices and your commitment to safety will be essential in safeguarding our clients and communities from the hazards of asbestos exposure.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform asbestos inspections, surveys, and assessments in mass transit systems, commercial properties, industrial properties, and residential buildings using appropriate sampling and testing methods.
  • Collect samples of suspect materials, prepare chain of custody, deliver samples to lab, and interpret lab results to determine asbestos content.
  • Prepare detailed reports documenting asbestos findings, including location, condition, and recommended abatement actions.
  • Perform asbestos air monitoring and project monitoring during asbestos abatement projects, including contractor supervision, work area setup, final clearance testing, Hazardous Waste Storage Area inspections.
  • Conduct periodic inspections and audits to monitor ongoing asbestos management activities and identify potential issues or areas for improvement.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to clients, contractors, and internal team members on asbestos-related matters.
  • Some night work, weekend work and travel.

Qualifications:

  • NYSDOL Asbestos Inspector, Asbestos Project Designer, Air Sampling Technician, Asbestos Project Monitor.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety and Health, DOT HAZMAT Basic General Awareness Training, NYC DOB Site Safety Training (SST) Certificate, NYC DOB SST 4 hour Supported Scaffolding Training.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience conducting asbestos inspections, designs, air sampling, and abatement project monitoring for NYS agencies, and NYC agencies.
  • Thorough understanding of asbestos regulations, including New York City, New York State, USEPA, and OSHA requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documenting asbestos findings and preparing reports.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Experience with AutoCAD with proficiency in developing asbestos survey and design drawings.
  • Valid driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
