Job description

Position Summary:

Discovery is looking for a talented and passionate Laboratory Coordinator to join our dynamic Flow Cytometry team. The Laboratory Coordinator position, working out of our Huntsville, AL will perform an array of general laboratory tasks to ensure compliance and consistency across the laboratory. This role will be important in the continued growth of Flow Cytometry within the company with an opportunity to work and grow in a fast-paced environment and make an impactful contribution to the growth of Discovery Life Sciences.

A Day in the Life of a System Administrator at Discovery Life Sciences:

  • Assist with accessioning new samples.
  • Organize new shipments of laboratory supplies.
  • Place orders for additional inventory.
  • Request and facilitate vendor visits.

Must-Have Qualifications (Education, Skills, Experience):

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in life sciences.
  • Strong organizational skills with an entry-level understanding of general laboratory procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work inclusively and collaboratively across the department(s).
  • Experience with basic lab equipment operation.
  • Organizational skills along with oral and written communication ability.
  • Proficient user of windows-based computer programs including word processing, spreadsheet, data management, internet and e-mail (MS 365 products preferred).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Use of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) for sample receipt, accessioning, testing requirements, queries/clarifications with investigator sites, etc..
  • Perform specimen accessioning activities including receiving, labeling, logging, and tracking samples.
  • Ensure accurate data entry and specimen handling in accordance with laboratory protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Resolve discrepancies related to sample identification and documentation.
  • Receive, verify, label, and organize incoming materials and supplies.
  • Performance of general inventory cycle counts monthly and/or as needed.
  • Track inventory and usage of in-lab supplies and request resupply as needed.
  • Participate in general laboratory maintenance for equipment, materials, and/or reagents
  • Prepare shipments for returning samples, perform sample archiving, and/or disposal of samples, following applicable SOPs.
  • Communicate with vendors to schedule equipment repairs and Preventative Maintenance visits on established schedules.
  • Perform general instrumentation QC / calibration as needed.
  • Adherence to established EHS safety protocols (PPE) and regulatory requirements
  • Compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements for the biopharmaceutical industry (e.g., GCP/GCLP, 21 CFR Part 11, CAP/CLIA, HIPAA).
  • Ability to follow instructions from senior laboratory staff within established timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to the Company and its operations
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor. These may, on occasion, be unrelated to the position described here.
  • Consistent and predictable attendance is an essential function of the position.
