Join the Department of Environmental Protection as an Air Monitoring Equipment Specialist and help protect air quality across Pennsylvania. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on operating and maintaining enhanced particulate monitoring samplers that run every day throughout the southeastern region of Pennsylvania. The role requires precise scheduling and dependable daily performance to ensure accurate sample collection and delivery. As a Air Monitoring Equipment Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Sampler Operation: Install and retrieve particulate filters, record data, and observe sampler performance at assigned sites
  • Special Sampling: Provide additional sampling support during special events or surge conditions
  • Data Entry: Complete required entries in the Sample Tracking Tool Portal and use backup forms when needed
  • Site Maintenance: Perform upkeep tasks such as vegetation control and minor repairs at sampling locations
  • Equipment Care: Conduct maintenance and repairs on sampling units and prepare necessary materials for daily use
  • Sample Transport: Deliver collected filters to designated meeting points and the laboratory with strict timing

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • This position works on a rotating schedule, totaling 75 hours bi-weekly. Overtime and travel may be required.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of technical experience testing and repairing electronic or electrical equipment; or
  • An associate degree in electronics, electrical engineering technology, information sciences and technology, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
