Job description

The Store Supervisor will oversee all aspects of Salvation Army stores operations and management.
Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Responsible for the set-up, management, operation, and maintenance of all Salvation Army stores. 
  • Responsible for creating a pleasant and hospitable work environment and maintain good customer relationships. 
  • Be well-versed in and ensure compliance to accounting, employee, and store policies. 
  • Responsible for sales, production, and expense budget goals for all stores. Maintain records, note trends, and take appropriate action, when necessary, to ensure that every store maintains a profitable operation. 
  • Responsible for recruitment, interviewing, training, coaching, assignment, and performance management. 
  • Conduct regular evaluations of employees, identifying performance strengths and areas of development. Recommend training as necessary. Prepare written warnings as needed. 
  • With the Administrator for Business, conduct regular evaluations of store management, and other personnel as necessary, identifying performance strengths and areas for development. Recommend training needs as necessary. 
  • Ensure that all safety measures are consistent with The Salvation Army policy and Government regulations and all personnel comply.
  • Responsible for regular evaluation of all thrift stores ensuring: 
    • Productivity.
    • Adherence to policy and procedures.
    • Hours of operation.
    • Appearance and proper signage.
    • Maintenance.
    • Customer service.
    • Cleanliness and Safety.
  • Adequate coverage of all stores with approved and up to date staffing pattern and posted work schedule for all staff including unpaid staff. 
  • Conduct formal store inspection and cash register check and reconciling of cash on hand at least once a month. These inspections should address property, building, and safety concerns. A full report should be made to the Administrator or designee. 
  • Verify accuracy and approve timecards. Review and provide explanation for overtime usage. 
  • Ensure that all stores are well stocked, and merchandise is “ragged out” and colorized in accordance with the ARC Command Rag Out Calendar
  • Ensure accounting and banking procedures are followed as per policy. See “Safekeeping of Salvation Army Funds” policy. 
  • Ensure that all paperwork and sales reports from all stores are complete, accurate, and forwarded to the finance department daily. 
  •  Responsible for planning and organizing monthly manager meetings. 
  • Communicate with warehouse, sorting room and shops to ensure proper pricing, adequate supply, and timely deliveries to all stores. 
  • When filling in for Store Manager, responsible for the proper accounting and banking of cash receipts at end of business day. Safeguard cash at all times. See “Safekeeping of Salvation Army Funds” policy. 
  • Handle employee and customer complaints in an expeditious manner taking appropriate action in consultation with Administrator when necessary or warranted.
  • Inspect offers of special donations prior to acceptance as assigned.
  • This position will support the work therapy program component of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers by providing beneficiaries with an example of professional conduct and work habits.
  • Other duties as assigned by Administrator for Business.

Qualifications:
  • High school graduate or equivalent. 
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in sales (experience in merchandising preferred). 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to lead, manage and motivate others
  • Ability to analyze sales and other financial reports.
  • Ability to identify and assess market value of merchandise. 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with acceptable DMV record. 
  • Basic computer skills.
