What are Salon Educators?

Salon Educators are professionals who train and mentor hairstylists, colorists, and other salon staff on the latest techniques, products, and industry trends. They often work for beauty brands, salons, or as independent consultants, delivering classes, workshops, and on-the-job training. Their role is essential in ensuring consistent quality, improving staff skills, and introducing new services or products to clients. Salon Educators may also help create training materials and evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Salon Educator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Salon Educator, you need advanced technical expertise in hair, skin, or nail services, as well as relevant cosmetology licensure and industry experience. Familiarity with salon management systems, professional product lines, and presentation tools is typically required. Excellent communication, leadership, and teaching skills are essential for inspiring and instructing both new and experienced stylists. These skills ensure effective knowledge transfer, maintain high service standards, and contribute to ongoing professional development within the salon environment.

What is the highest paid beauty job?

The highest paid beauty jobs often include senior roles such as salon owners, beauty directors, or specialized professionals like cosmetic surgeons and dermatologists. These positions typically require advanced certifications, extensive experience, and often involve managing multiple staff or running a business, leading to higher earnings compared to standard salon educator roles.

How to be a salon educator?

To become a salon educator, you typically need to have extensive experience as a licensed cosmetologist or hairstylist, along with strong communication and teaching skills. Many employers prefer candidates with advanced certifications or specialized training, and some may require a certain number of years of industry experience. Developing a deep knowledge of hair techniques, product lines, and salon operations is essential for effective instruction and mentorship.

How does a Salon Educator typically collaborate with salon staff to implement new techniques and products?

Salon Educators work closely with salon teams by conducting hands-on training sessions, demonstrations, and workshops to introduce new techniques, trends, and products. They often customize their instruction based on the skill levels and needs of the staff, ensuring everyone feels confident applying what they've learned. Collaboration extends beyond formal training, as educators provide ongoing support, answer questions, and may even assist during client services to reinforce best practices. This partnership helps maintain high service standards and fosters a culture of continuous learning within the salon.

What Does a Salon Educator Do?

As a salon educator, you provide training to cosmetology students and stylists. You work in a salon, technical college, or cosmetology school and coach hairstylists and other staff to meet performance and quality standards. You run training programs, evaluate stylist work, ensure client satisfaction, and oversee the maintenance of the workspace. Your responsibilities include administering client services, promoting products to increase sales, and collaborating with staff to meet service and sales goals. Depending on the size of the salon, your duties can include managerial and supervisory tasks such as scheduling employees, booking appointments, answering phone inquiries, and processing payments.

What is the highest paying salon job?

The highest paying salon jobs are typically senior roles such as salon owners, master stylists, or salon directors, who often earn higher commissions, bonuses, and profit sharing. These positions require extensive experience, advanced skills, and sometimes additional certifications, with earnings varying based on location and clientele.

How to make $100,000 as a hairstylist?

A hairstylist can earn $100,000 by building a strong client base, increasing service prices, and offering high-demand treatments or specialized skills. Achieving this income often requires working in busy salons, maintaining a flexible schedule, and continuously improving technical skills and customer service. Diversifying income through product sales or teaching can also contribute to higher earnings.

Job description

Position Title: Professional Salon Sales Consultant (SSC)

Location: United States (Fort Worth, TX preferred / Remote-Flexible)

Status: Full-Time | Exempt

Reports to: Sales and Business Development

About the Role

Professional Salon Sales Consultants (SSCs) are outside sales consultants representing a curated portfolio of premium professional haircare brands sold exclusively through our independent distribution network to professional hair salons. SSCs are more than sales representatives — they are true business partners to the salon owners and stylists they serve, collaborating on growth strategies, product education, and brand-building to help their accounts thrive behind the chair and beyond.

This is a national-scope role focused on face-to-face relationship building with independent salons, multi-location groups, and salon suite operators across assigned territories. The ideal candidate has deep roots in the professional beauty industry, a passion for haircare, and the drive to grow a book of business through trust, expertise, and consistent follow-through.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, manage, and grow a portfolio of professional salon accounts — selling to salon owners, suite operators, buyers, and key decision-makers across the assigned territory
  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans to drive revenue growth and expand brand presence within professional salons and beauty schools
  • Prospect, identify, and establish new salon partnerships at the local and national level
  • Educate salon professionals on product lines, application techniques, and business benefits — acting as a trusted brand ambassador and in-salon educator
  • Meet and exceed assigned KPIs including sales targets, account activity, new door acquisition, and brand sell-through
  • Conduct regular in-person salon visits — with the ability and willingness to travel across multiple states as needed
  • Shine as a presenter and educator while hosting and promoting events — trade shows, in-salon product launches, salon team trainings, and industry activations (e.g., Orlando Premiere, Cosmoprof, ISSE)
  • Stay current on professional haircare trends, new product launches, competitor activity, and salon industry developments
  • Manage and maintain a professional social media presence to drive engagement with salon professionals and industry peers
  • Provide regular sales reports, forecasts, and account activity updates to leadership
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 2–3+ years of outside sales or B2B experience; prior experience selling into professional hair salons, beauty distributors, or professional haircare brands strongly preferred
  • Genuine passion for the professional beauty industry, with the ability to speak credibly to salon owners and stylists about products and trends
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to consult salon owners on product selection, retail strategy, and business growth
  • Highly self-motivated, goal-oriented, and able to manage a broad salon account portfolio independently
  • Proficient with digital platforms for reporting, client communication, and order management
  • High social media acumen — comfortable creating content and driving engagement with a professional beauty audience
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
  • Willingness and ability to travel across the United States regularly
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
  • Background in cosmetology, salon management, professional product education, or brand training is a strong plus

What We Offer

  • Competitive base salary + performance-based bonus
  • Bonus and incentive opportunities tied to performance
  • Full medical, dental, and vision benefits
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off (vacation, sick, holidays)
  • Frequent in-person professional development opportunities, with plenty of fun in the mix
  • Membership in a strong community of colleagues
  • Exceptional support from sales managers, store teams, home office staff, and customer service professionals
  • Strong brand and supplier partnerships that give you the backing you need to confidently sell premium professional haircare brands to salons

Compensation Estimate — Fort Worth, TX

Base Salary: $52,000 – $65,000

Performance Bonus: Based on performance

Note: The pay rate within this range will be determined based on the candidate's level of experience.
