What is a Salesforce developer contract?

A Salesforce Developer Contract refers to a temporary or project-based position where a developer is hired to build, customize, or maintain applications on the Salesforce platform. Contract developers work on specific projects, such as integrating Salesforce with other systems, creating custom workflows, or developing new features using Apex, Visualforce, and Lightning components. These roles are typically time-bound and may be managed through staffing agencies or directly with companies seeking specialized Salesforce expertise. Contract work offers flexibility and exposure to a variety of industries and projects.

What does a contract Salesforce developer do?

As a contract Salesforce developer, your duties involve creating customer relationship management (CRM) software solutions for a company on a temporary or freelance basis. Your responsibilities vary depending on the type of project you work on and the needs of each client. You are often involved in application design and testing. You write code for the applications and solutions that you build using the Apex language. Since you work on an independent basis with different clients, your job involves assessing the needs of each client so that you can build the solutions and applications that they need.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract Salesforce developer?

To thrive as a Salesforce Developer on contract, you need strong proficiency in Apex, Visualforce, and Lightning components, along with a solid understanding of Salesforce architecture and experience with custom application development. Familiarity with Salesforce development tools (like Salesforce DX), version control systems (such as Git), and relevant certifications (e.g., Salesforce Platform Developer I/II) are highly valued. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and time management skills help you deliver solutions efficiently and collaborate with clients and teams. These skills ensure that you can design, develop, and deploy tailored Salesforce solutions that meet business requirements within project timelines.

What are some common challenges faced by contract Salesforce developers?

Salesforce Developers on contract often encounter challenges such as quickly adapting to new client environments, understanding existing customizations, and aligning with varying coding standards. They may also need to efficiently manage time to meet tight project deadlines and ensure seamless collaboration with remote or cross-functional teams. Effective communication and strong documentation skills are essential to ensure smooth handoffs and project continuity when the contract ends.

Job description

Please Note: This is a Utah-based hybrid position which will require some regular in-office days each week. Additionally, employment with BambooHR is contingent on passing both a background and credit check.

AI at BambooHR

At BambooHR, we're all about setting people free to do great work, and we believe AI is a powerful partner in that mission. We're leaning into intelligent tools to streamline our workflows, giving us more time for high-impact innovation. We look for curious, forward-thinking people who are ready to explore how AI can elevate their work and help us reimagine the future of HR.

Essential Job Duties

BambooHR is building a dedicated discipline around the technologies that power marketing measurement, attribution, and web data collection. Rather than treating tracking as a collection of scripts and tags, we treat it as a product: thoughtfully architected, well documented, and designed to evolve alongside our web platform, privacy requirements, and marketing technology stack.

As the Sr. Marketing Ops Manager, you'll own the technical foundation connecting website interactions to trusted marketing data. You'll oversee tagging, consent management, analytics instrumentation, and the data layer that powers downstream platforms including Marketo, Salesforce, and Databricks. Success in this role means creating a scalable, reliable measurement architecture that enables confident business decisions, supports future platform changes, and provides a durable foundation for Marketing and Engineering alike.

You will:

  • Own Google Tag Manager (GTM) architecture, governance, and deployment across all production environments.
  • Design, implement, and maintain consent management solutions in partnership with Legal and Engineering, ensuring compliance with evolving privacy regulations and industry standards.
  • Establish and maintain marketing attribution standards, including UTM governance, click ID capture (GCLID, MSCLKID), and tracking consistency across digital properties.
  • Own analytics instrumentation across Adobe Analytics, GA4, and future analytics platforms, partnering closely with Marketing Analytics to ensure accurate, actionable data collection.
  • Define and maintain the website data layer contract with Engineering, ensuring Marketing technologies receive consistent, reliable data regardless of website or platform changes.
  • Ensure accurate data flow from the website into Marketo, with Salesforce, Databricks, and other downstream systems receiving complete and trustworthy marketing data.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, implementation standards, governance processes, and operational best practices for BambooHR's web marketing technology ecosystem.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders—including Engineering, Data & BI, Marketing Operations, Marketing Analytics, and Legal—to evolve web technology architecture and establish scalable standards.
  • Evaluate new technologies, recommend improvements, and continuously optimize BambooHR's marketing technology capabilities.

Within your first year, you'll have:

  • Established a documented, scalable tagging architecture that can support future website and platform evolution.
  • Implemented a consent management framework that remains compliant as privacy requirements evolve.
  • Increased organizational confidence in marketing attribution through reliable, complete, and trusted data.
  • Created a resilient data layer contract that minimizes rework during website or platform migrations.
  • Built governance processes that allow Marketing, Engineering, and Data teams to collaborate through well-defined interfaces instead of recurring implementation discussions.

What You Need to Get the Job Done:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6–8 years of experience working within a modern marketing technology stack.
  • Deep experience with Google Tag Manager and enterprise tag management best practices.
  • Experience administering a marketing automation platform, preferably Marketo.
  • Experience with enterprise analytics platforms such as Adobe Analytics or Google Analytics 4.
  • Working knowledge of consent management platforms such as OneTrust, TrustArc, DataGrail, or similar solutions.
  • Working proficiency with JavaScript sufficient to troubleshoot implementations, debug data layers, and support advanced tag management.
  • Experience translating URL parameters, first-party cookies, and tracking identifiers into actionable data across marketing automation and CRM platforms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to create clear technical documentation, implementation standards, and operational processes.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to translate technical concepts across Marketing, Engineering, and Data teams.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing initiatives, and drive projects from concept through implementation.

What Will Make Us REALLY Love You:

  • Experience working with Databricks or modern cloud data platforms.
  • SQL proficiency for data validation, troubleshooting, and analysis.
  • Experience supporting server-side tagging implementations.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce architecture and marketing attribution models.
  • Experience developing governance frameworks for enterprise marketing technology environments.
  • You are equally comfortable discussing JavaScript implementations with engineers and campaign attribution with marketers. You view measurement architecture as a long-term product to be designed, documented, and continuously improved—not simply a collection of tags to maintain.
  • You enjoy bringing structure to ambiguous problems, building scalable systems, and creating sustainable technical foundations that allow others to move quickly with confidence. You work independently, influence without authority, and build credibility through thoughtful documentation, technical expertise, and collaborative problem-solving.

What You'll Love About Us

  • A Great Company Culture that has been recognized by multiple organizations like Inc, and Salt Lake Tribune
  • Comprehensive health, life, and disability insurance
  • Generous leave policies that include 4 weeks of vacation, 12 company holidays, parental leave, and volunteer time off so you can enjoy quality of life
  • 401k plans with up to 6% company match
  • $2000 Paid-Paid Vacation bonus
  • EAP through Headspace
