Description:

 The primary responsibilities of the Guest Services Associate are in the retail and outdoor amusement areas. This position must be willing to work inside the gift shop and outside in attractions. The job entails day-to-day amusement and retail operations and the ability to engage with guests in a busy environment, providing all guests with a positive experience. Excellent customer service skills are a priority.


Key Responsibilities of the Guest Services Associate
The Guest Services Associate is required to:

  • Maintain good standing, attitude, work ethic, etc., providing exceptional customer service to guests, and striving to maintain harmonious relations among staff
  • Provide accurate general information to guests and ensure good guest experiences
  • Keep work areas neat
  • Clean and stock in the gift shop
  • Clean equipment, rides, booths, and grounds- including restrooms
  • Operate POS system
  • Operate attractions (soaring eagle zip line, safari cars, train, carousel)
  • Inform riders of rules, safety regulations, or prohibited items on rides
  • Ensure all riders of an attraction are safe and complying to park rules
  • Following SOPs and complete checklists
  • Use radios for communication and follow the proper chain of command
  • Make decisions guided by the core values of the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo
  • Participate in morning meetings and temperature checks
  • Participate in after-hours events
  • Other duties as needed, and cooperation with departments outside of amusements (administration, maintenance, guest services, etc.)

The above-listed duties are general statements of required major duties and responsibilities performed on a regular and continuous basis. They do not exclude other duties as assigned.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in retail/ guest services
  • Candidates with ride operator experience will be given preference

Education:

  • High school diploma

Licensure/Certification:

  • Must maintain a valid Driver’s License

Software Requirements:

  • Must have basic computer knowledge
  • Must be able to utilize the Point of Sale software system and communicate errors to the help desk.

Machinery/Tools/Equipment Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to use mobile devices, computer, fax, scanner, phone, and copy machine
  • Must be knowledgeable in communicating via email

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting or standing, bending, stooping, and per OSHA regulations: Heavy work involving lifting no more than 25 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or varying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Constant adequate range of motion and mobility are required.

Environmental/Working Conditions:

  • Long hours are sometimes required including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Required to work outdoors in extreme temperatures and wear face masks where social distancing isn’t possible.
  • Ability to work under and handle stress in an appropriate manner required.
  • Ensure that storage and guest areas are maintained in a clean, organized, and safe fashion.
  • The candidate must be able to work effectively unsupervised and approach all encounters with employees and guests in a friendly, service-oriented manner.
