Sales Development Software information

What is a sales development software?

Sales Development Software is a digital tool designed to help sales teams identify, engage, and nurture potential customers (leads) more efficiently. It automates tasks such as lead generation, outreach, follow-up, and tracking interactions, enabling sales representatives to focus on building relationships and closing deals. These platforms often integrate with CRM systems, provide analytics, and help streamline the sales process to increase productivity and conversion rates.

How does a sales development software role typically interact with sales and marketing teams?

Professionals in Sales Development Software roles often serve as a vital link between the sales and marketing teams. They collaborate closely with marketing to understand campaign goals and messaging, while also working with sales to qualify leads and ensure smooth handoffs. Success in this role often requires clear communication, sharing insights on lead quality, and providing feedback on prospect engagement. This collaborative approach helps optimize the sales funnel and drives more effective outreach strategies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sales development representative in software, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sales Development Representative (SDR) in software, you need strong communication skills, a solid understanding of sales processes, and ideally a background in business or technology. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) platforms like Salesforce, sales enablement tools, and sometimes relevant sales certifications are commonly required. Outstanding SDRs excel at active listening, resilience, and time management to build rapport and efficiently qualify leads. These skills and tools are vital for generating high-quality leads, supporting the sales pipeline, and driving revenue growth in a competitive software market.

It offers opportunities for skill development in communication, sales strategies, and technology, often with clear performance metrics and potential for career advancement. The role typically requires strong interpersonal skills and familiarity with sales tools, making it a viable career path in sales and business development.

Is sales development software an entry level position?

Sales development roles involving software typically are entry-level positions, suitable for individuals with basic communication skills and familiarity with CRM tools. Many companies offer training and do not require extensive prior experience, making it accessible for recent graduates or those new to sales technology.

Job description

Role Overview

Five Star Painting of Coeur d’Alene is seeking a high-performing Estimator & Business Development Specialist who can both generate new opportunities and accurately estimate and close painting projects. This is a hybrid role ideal for someone who thrives on relationship building, prospecting, and closing work—not waiting for leads to be handed to them.

This position plays a critical role in driving company revenue through a mix of self-sourced leads, inbound estimates, and strategic partnerships.

Key Responsibilities Estimating & Sales (Primary)

  • Conduct on-site and virtual estimates for residential and commercial painting projects
  • Develop accurate, detailed, and profitable estimates aligned with company pricing standards
  • Present proposals professionally and confidently to close jobs
  • Follow up on all estimates in a timely, organized manner
  • Negotiate scope and pricing when appropriate while protecting margins
  • Maintain a high close rate and strong customer experience

Business Development & Lead Generation (Required)

  • Proactively generate your own leads through:
  • Realtor, property manager, and GC relationships
  • Networking groups (BNI, chambers, local events)
  • Cold outreach to commercial properties, HOAs, churches, and facilities
  • Jobsite visits and relationship-based prospecting
  • Build and maintain a personal pipeline of opportunities
  • Track and report lead sources, follow-ups, and outcomes
  • Represent Five Star Painting professionally in the community

CRM, Reporting & Coordination

  • Enter all leads, estimates, and follow-ups into CRM software accurately
  • Coordinate with production and office staff to ensure smooth job handoffs
  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding timelines and expectations
  • Track weekly KPIs related to estimates, close rate, and revenue

Performance Expectations

  • Consistently generate and close new business
  • Meet or exceed monthly and annual revenue targets
  • Maintain estimating accuracy and margin discipline
  • Actively contribute to company growth initiatives

Qualifications & Skills

  • 2+ years of experience in estimating, sales, or business development (construction or home services preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-starter mentality — comfortable hunting for business
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and tech-savvy
  • Ability to manage time independently in a field-based role
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary + commission structure (performance-based)
  • Vehicle Provided
  • Paid training and ongoing support
  • Growth opportunity into senior sales or leadership roles
  • Supportive team culture with clear expectations

Ideal Candidate Profile

This role is not for someone who only wants to write estimates from inbound leads.
This role is for someone who:

  • Enjoys networking and relationship building
  • Takes ownership of their pipeline
  • Wants to grow income alongside company growth
  • Understands that activity drives opportunity
