What is a sales apprentice?

A Sales Apprentice is an entry-level professional who learns the fundamentals of sales through a combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction. They typically assist experienced sales representatives, develop customer service skills, and gain knowledge about products or services offered by the company. Sales Apprenticeships are designed to provide practical experience while building sales techniques, communication, and negotiation skills. Upon successful completion, apprentices may advance to full sales roles or specialized positions within the organization.

What is a sales apprentice?

As a sales apprentice, your job is to prepare for a career in sales, and you learn the necessary skills and gain experience by assisting a more senior sales associate or manager who provides frequent feedback on your performance. Sales associates work in a variety of fields, so your specific duties as a sales apprentice depend on the industry you are interested in. For example, a retail sales apprentice typically works in a showroom or store, providing customers with excellent service. Working in direct marketing or wholesaling, you may provide administrative support for regional salespeople, such as generating leads, following up with customers, and contacting customers about new products or offers. The qualifications for this job include basic computer proficiency, excellent verbal communication, and a high school diploma, although a post-secondary degree may be preferred.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sales apprentice?

To thrive as a Sales Apprentice, you need foundational knowledge of sales processes, strong communication skills, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software, basic office applications, and sometimes product-specific training are typically required. Proactiveness, resilience, and a willingness to learn are essential soft skills that help build rapport and adapt in a fast-paced environment. These abilities are crucial for developing effective sales techniques, managing client interactions, and building a successful sales career.

What types of training and mentorship can sales apprentices typically expect during their first year?

Sales Apprentices usually receive a blend of formal training sessions and hands-on learning opportunities. Most programs pair new apprentices with experienced sales professionals who provide guidance, feedback, and on-the-job coaching. Apprentices often participate in product knowledge workshops, sales technique seminars, and role-playing exercises to refine their skills. Regular check-ins and performance reviews help track progress and identify areas for growth, ensuring a supportive environment as they develop confidence and expertise in sales.

Job description

Extreme DCJR is seeking a driven individual to join our team in a Business Development Representative role with the opportunity to grow into an Internet Sales position. The successful candidate will have strong professional communication skills across phone, text, and email platforms, capable of proactively driving business growth.

Your initial role with us would be in a business development capacity as part of a mentor-led apprenticeship, offering clear goals on daily, weekly and monthly tasks to guarantee your progression towards becoming an Internet Salesperson. Our dealership has enjoyed a low turnover rate, with an average tenure of over 10 years among our employees.

Responsibilities:

Manage all incoming internet leads, text messages, and phone leads through the CRM tool.

Set, confirm, and execute follow up on customer appointments, with the aim of rescheduling no-show ones.

Maintain consistent communication with appropriate managers and salespeople regarding appointment activity.

Coordinate post-sale follow-up calls, schedule both service and sales appointments, and evaluate customer satisfaction.

Conduct outreach based on current marketing incentives.

Cultivate relationships with existing customers via phone and email, improving customer loyalty.

Develop a sales and business opportunity pipeline through networking, cold calling, and referrals.

Collaborate with the sales department to develop and enhance strategies and techniques.

Follow up with customers in a manner that leads them to visit our dealership.

Exhibit ethical behavior, ensure supreme customer satisfaction, and maintain honesty in all customer interactions.

While in this role, you will receive comprehensive guidance and professional development opportunities, setting you up for your achievable transition into an Internet Salesperson. We eagerly invite those who are passionate about growing with us to apply.

Requirements

We encourage applications from motivated individuals who possess excellent customer service skills and a relentless drive for success. While prior experience in sales, a call center, or a Business Development Center (BDC) is strongly preferred, candidates without this experience but who demonstrate a strong potential for business development will also be considered. A crucial part of this role involves creating and sustaining strong customer relationships, so excellent communication skills are essential.

To thrive in this role, you'll require:

Robust computer and phone skills - proficiency in using CRM tools would be advantageous.

Experience in appointment setting - you'll be scheduling, confirming, and following up on customer appointments regularly.

Great communication skills - your core tasks will involve extensive communication via phone, text, and email.

Exemplary organizational skills - you'll be responsible for managing incoming leads and maintaining consistent communication.
