What is a salas?

In a professional context, 'Salas' is not a commonly recognized job title in English. It could refer to 'Sala,' which in some languages means 'room' or 'hall,' or it might be a misspelling or abbreviation for a job title like 'Sales.' If you are referring to 'Sales,' this role typically involves selling products or services, building client relationships, and achieving revenue targets. Sales professionals work in a variety of industries and may specialize in areas such as retail, business-to-business (B2B), or online sales.

What are the typical challenges faced by sales professionals when working to meet monthly targets?

Sales professionals often encounter challenges such as managing a high volume of leads, handling client objections, and adapting to changing market conditions. Balancing time between prospecting new clients and nurturing existing relationships can be demanding. Additionally, collaborating closely with marketing teams and staying updated on product knowledge are essential for success. Effective communication and resilience are key traits that help overcome these obstacles and achieve sales goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sales professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sales professional, you need strong interpersonal skills, persuasive communication, and a good understanding of the products or services you represent, often supported by a relevant degree or sales certifications. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) systems like Salesforce and data analysis tools is highly beneficial. Outstanding soft skills include resilience, active listening, and the ability to build rapport quickly with clients. These abilities are crucial for effectively identifying customer needs, closing deals, and fostering long-term business relationships.

About Salas O'Brien/RFS Engineering:
Founded in 1975, Salas O'Brien is 5,000 person employee-owned engineering and professional services firm focused on achieving impact for our clients, our team, and the world. We know that tomorrow's requirements are today's opportunities, and we are here to design lasting solutions for pressing challenges.
With roots dating to 1957, RFS Engineering (RFS) is a long-standing northeast regional leader providing consulting engineering and commissioning services for the built environment. In late 2025, RFS joined the Salas O'Brien family.

The Salas/RFS technical expertise is paired with an exceptional team of business development, human resources, finance and accounting, information technology, and marketing professionals, all of whom play a key role in bringing our commitments to life every day.
Position Summary:

The Commissioning Agent will collaborate with owners, design engineers, contractors, equipment vendors and manufacturers, and facilities staff to verify that MEP systems are installed, started, tested, and documented in accordance with the construction documents.
Position Requirements:
  • 10+ years' field and/or operational experience involving building automation systems (BAS) construction. (Current BAS field technicians looking for a career pivot, while still applying their professional skills, are encouraged to apply.)
  • Bachelor's or associate degree in engineering or related field (preferred but not required).

Physical Requirements:
  • Regular field presence on active construction sites.
  • Ability to climb ladders, access mechanical rooms, and work around active equipment.

Office Assignment:
  • Primary office assignments in Boston, MA, Laconia, NH, or Portland, ME (candidate choice).

Travel:
  • Approximately 50% to 75% depending on workflow, primarily day trips to project and client sites.
  • Occasional overnight stays to accommodate project requirements.

Compensation and Benefits:
The expected base salary range for this role is 110,000 - $135,000 USD per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and qualifications.
This role is also eligible for performance-based bonuses and a comprehensive U.S. based benefits package, including:
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and company holidays
  • Wellness programs and employee assistance resources
