Job description

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead and grow the electrical engineering service line within a mid-size civil engineering firm.

This role will primarily support the mechanical engineering teams on water and wastewater infrastructure projects while also handling electrical design for land development projects.

The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with strong experience in pump station electrical design, power distribution, and site lighting who enjoys collaborating across disciplines in a dynamic consulting environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pump Station & Water/Wastewater Electrical Design
  • Design electrical systems for municipal water wells, booster pump stations, and sewer lift stations.
  • Develop motor control systems, variable frequency drives (VFDs), power distribution, standby generators, and SCADA integration.
  • Perform electrical load calculations, conduit and cable sizing, and equipment selection.
  • Coordinate closely with mechanical engineers on pump selection, controls, and overall station design.
  • Land Development Electrical Design
  • Provide complete electrical design and documentation for subdivisions, commercial sites, and public improvements.
  • Design site lighting (street, parking, pedestrian, and landscape lighting), including photometric studies and energy code compliance.
  • Prepare electrical plans, details, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Project Leadership
  • Serve as electrical discipline lead on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Perform quality control reviews of electrical drawings and calculations.
  • Coordinate with clients, utility companies, agencies, and contractors.
  • Prepare proposals, technical reports, and construction support documents.
  • Business Development & Team Growth
  • Help build and mentor a growing electrical engineering team.
  • Support marketing and proposal efforts for projects requiring electrical expertise.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in California or Nevada (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in consulting engineering, with significant focus on water/wastewater pump stations and land development.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and California/Nevada electrical codes.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, SKM Power*Tools or ETAP, and lighting design software (e.g., AGI32 or Visual).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience with municipal clients and agency permitting processes.
  • SCADA, instrumentation, and controls experience.
  • Master’s degree or additional certifications (e.g., LEED, PMP).

What They Offer

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience ($140,000 – $185,000+ DOE).
  • Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, 401(k) with match, and paid time off.
  • Professional development support (conferences, PE license maintenance, training).
  • Collaborative, team-oriented culture with opportunities for leadership and ownership.
  • Flexible work arrangements across multiple thriving office locations.
